| CDC - Seasonal Influenza (Flu) - Key Facts About Seasonal Influenza (Flu) Looks like the regular flu is still winning in infections and deaths. I do like the section on who should get a flu shot, as it coincides with something I mentioned in another thread. 8) |

| Like I was saying before it's better they overreact then underreact. If they overreact maybe some people are inconvenienced or annoyed. If they underreact people die. The thing they are still worried about is the possibility of it mutating as it is a highly unstable strain of the flu. Edit: Also, remember that a pandemic doesn't mean it's going to kill us all, it just means this particular virus has spread worldwide, and is not a more regular(as in repeating) disease like the normal flu or malaria.

| Yes well I'll take the word of the CDC over a bunch of people on a web forum as to whether or not this disease poses a threat. As I already explained the reason they are worried is that Swine flu is far more unstable then the normal flu, and so can more easily mutate, which could spell disaster if it mutates into something worse. The more people that get infected, the more chances there are for the virus to mutate. That should make it obvious as to why you want to keep people from being infected.

| The concern is that a second more deadly outbreak could occur, much like the 1918 flu pandemic which eventually had a fatality rate 25 times greater than the regular flu.
