Till we come into constant contact with zebras when they have a pandemic of their own. I mean seriously people seem not to understand how this pandemic thing works. It's not like they are timed or on a schedule. They cannot be predicted, it is impossible. So whenever there is even the possibility of widespread infection authorities must prepare for it.

Is there something wrong with preventing it like how we prevent any other flu?

stay healthy, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. If you do get sick, don't go around screaming "I"M GOING TO DIE!!!!" (although that would enterain me for awhile)

You stay home and get medicine.

And if it bothers people that much I recomend this.

1. Shut up about it

2. Get up

3. Go to med school

4. Learn as much as you physically can about the flu

5. create cure

6. ???

7. profit!

Medical professionals have been saying basically prevent swine flu like you would the normal flu, there isn't anything special you are suppose to do. The only reason they are making a big deal about it is two fold. For one thing at first they didn't have a vaccine, which could have meant many more deaths among the young and old. Also novel H1N1 is still a very unstable form of the flu and could mutate into something much worse then the normal flu. That's what they are preparing for, on the off chance it gets worse. When talking about disease it's much better to be over-prepared then under-prepared.

Of course, it's not as though this is going to make anyone on here get off the CDCs case.

True, but it is still being overblown. I have learned from many people and experiences that the majority is stupid most of the time. If we had people like you giving out the new then I wouldn't "hate" this virus as much as I would now.

My knowledge of economics is very low so I dont know how much time or effort is going into things like this but if they spent half as much time working on a cure rather then wasting time giving out mandatory flu shots, we probably would make great strides into finding a cure.

For the record preparing for a pandemic is probably good for the economy, or at least some parts of it.
On the other hand a pandemic that has broken out is generally bad :P
