Absolutely. Something like 88% of the demand for South American-grown drugs is in the US, because everywhere else can grow it themselves. In that sense, the laws prohibiting marijuana in the US are what is causing the Mexico drug wars right now. Cut off the demand and the illegal side of the trade will die, the legal part will flourish and help the economy.

I really don't see why pot shouldn't be legalized...I mean, it's no worse than tobacco, chewed or smoked. Sort of like khat, that's one of the least dangerous drugs (ever) but for some reason is banned in the US.

With alcohol, it's ingested so those around them will not be affected by the ingredients. Smoking however, by it's name, gives a cloud of smoke that others can be affected by. "Contact High" is the term normally used for it.

I would agree. However, a contact high isnt at the same level as a smoking high. WHen I worked in the substance abuse office for my battalion, alot of the info I had access say it was very very very hard to get a contact high.

Now that could have been Marine Corps propaganda, so anybody feel free to chime in, but one of the case reports I read had basically a telephone booth full of pot smoke and the guy inside was barely high.

I foresee a sudden spike in the amount of pot smokers due to so many people wanting to try it just once. Then that number will slowly start to drop back down, probably not following below the number of people that already smoke.

I think it's almost a given that the number of smokers will rise, or at least, amount of pot smoked.

A lot of people are turned off by the fact that it's illegal, because that of course means it's completely unhealthy and kills - they refuse to try. Once Pot is legalised, it will cease to be a taboo.

Also, a large percentage of smokers will start smoking even more, when the stuff becomes more accessible and (hopefully) cheaper.

I mean heck, if i have the option to casually smoke a joint before a big test or stressful presentation, gosh darnit, I will. Whereas if I were to do this now I would risk severe punishment.

Uh, I wouldn't recommend it. That test requires sharp thought more than anything, weed isn't going to help you there. And it's really not worth failing the biggest test of your high-school years just to avoid a bit of stress.
