No it's not. Don't know about New Zealand but in the U.S. smoking is illegal in almost all public places.

In fact, I think smokers should be taken to a small island where all they are given are cigs. Last one alive goes back home and goes into a detox center.

No, here it isn't. It is in enclosed public places and in open areas of restaurants (I think...) but not in the street, not in a park, etc. Our entire university campus is becoming smokefree next year, so that's a good step, but most of the CBD that the university is in the middle of isn't, and you get people smoking left, right, and center.

I am tolerant. Just not towards things that are hazardous to my health.

So if you feel so strongly about it, why not move to have smoking in all public places banned instead of banning only certain types of cigarettes?

I would have no problems if they banned all cigarettes in certain conditions. However, singling out cloves and flavored cigarettes is what pisses me off.

Well, the thing is, that the hazard component is offset against the use to me, my friends, family, or to general society. I'm not sure what benefit smoking has to general society other than keeping the tobacco industry afloat.

They claimed it was because they taste good, hence underage kids smoke them. So, it's for the children!

Of course, never mind the fact that the majority of underage smokers smoke menthols or regular cigs, incidentally the only cigarettes not banned.
