So, apparently the Russians have started a new vacation deal: You spend $5,000 to rent a yacht that goes from I believe Mombasa to Somalia, and on this trip the boat coasts at 5 nautical mph in order to attract Somali pirates. These passengers can buy weapons such as the AK 47, grenade launchers, and various machine guns. When the pirates get close to the ship, thinking that it's a helpless cruise ship, the passengers open fire on the pirates. Also, the passengers have a few ex-Spetsnaz men with them in case they need extra assistance. This is very true, and I find it absolutely hilarious. Who needs Obama when we've got rich Russians on yachts looking for some kicks

How can it end poorly? If they get shot up then a few rich tossers die, if the Russian government gets involved then the pirates aren't really in a position to win. There are only annoying people involved, I just don't see any downsides to this.

I question the legitimacy of the story, as all of the sites I've seen running it source it to Ananova - www.ananova.com, where it doesn't seem to exist anymore.

Anyway, for the sake of Having A Good Time:

At this point, despite the crudeness of the whole thing, I don't see a tremendous problem in it, as it's in the middle of the ocean. Doesn't seem like there's a big chance of it spilling over into civilian territory. Everyone involved is more or less entering the situation willing and informed (though I'm sure there'll be young pirate conscripts that don't have much a choice in the matter). And personally, I don't value some rich thrill seeker any more than the pirate, so I don't really care who wins.

All we need now is to televise it and we'll have a world hit bloodsport.

I would do it but risking getting shot isn't high on my list of priorities. Though I do already live in Detroit...
