If communism and socialism are so great, why have the majority of those societies failed or slowly started to become a capitalist country in certain aspects (China for example)?

Since when are they against democracy? Communist believe in a goverment free world. As you may know they only support a temporary big goverment to take away all the private property and once there is no more private property everything is given to "the people" (everything belongs equally to everybody). Sadly though most "communist' nations kind of forget about these steps once they got all the private property...

As for socialism, being socialist doesn't mean you wouldn't support or have no elections (if only to vote for the best soclalist candidate if we were to assume the majority of people in a given country support the socialst ideology and them voting out incompetent socialist administrations for a better one).

It would be great, utopia on earth. Too bad that it's impossible to find out who is a greedy corruptive bastard and who is social. Oh and the whole "killing those who don't step in line" thing. Why is it that no ideology is free of flaws and that we have to walk the middleground because both communism and capitalism pretty much fucking the people over if they would somehow be excecuted down to the letter (and then collapsing in over itself due to it's own flaws) and us alll ending up in "the middle". Damn it!

Communism is great in theory, too bad it won't work and that humans can not live in an utopian world like that. Socialism sort of works. Classic socialism doesn't, again due to human greed where people will sadly take advantage of the generousity and kindness of others (eka, trying to get free handouts over the back of others while they themselves sit back and enjoy). But Liberal-socialism, neo-socialism, democratic-socialism or whatever you want to call it, where these flaws are taken into account and only those who have proven to be unable to support themselves get aid, and the level of aid depending on the conditions (meaning, if you can stil perform some work you don't need a free full income and such) does work.

Same can be said about capitalism or systems close to true capitalism were the money and power are in the hands of a very small elite. Capitalism doesn't work (look at the industrial age and the workers eventually uniting to tell the elite small uperclass that they can't treat the common men as slaves) and even a too free market doesn't work (banks anyone? failing selfcheck and reponsibility?).

No, we eventually end up somewhere closer to the middle. Being at the far end of the line (or near it), the left end or right end will not work. Eventually you'll end up being drawn to the centre again. For some it's a bit more to the left or to the right but sitting near the far end... not an option.

Well, I don't like the notion of Democracy because quite frankly people aren't intelligent enough to make good choices. Sure, the electoral college does help a bit, but people still have this biggest say. With there being only 5 or 4 instances where the college did different than the people, that says something.

Look at Western Europe and their implementation of a social democracy. If anything, Obama is taking that route and that is not a bad route to take. What they have now and the U.S.S.R had is completely different.

And where are you seeing these videos? If you are watching your nightly news then i would agree. They pick and choose and attempt to find the worst of the worst and show them as the mainstream.

I can't remember were I seen the video but it was aload of republicans going into a McCain rally at some sports field centre place, some Obama supporters were outside and the McCain supporters just kept shouting all those insults like "Commie", "Socialist" etc

Then there was another one on a comendy show here in Britain called '8 out of 10 cats' and it showed a clip of what some average Americans think of Obama, of course it was "Baby killer" or a "Peadophile"... You couldn't make this up could you?

On the "Obama's Scary" comment, I think you are all taking it out of context. I don't think the woman meant that Obama (the man) is scary but that his beliefs, ideals, and what his administration would bring to this country scares her.

The few problems I have with Obama is I don't know what the hell he wants, he keeps things on the low down. Atleast I havent heard anyone not voting for him because he's black.
