Well yes, but there is a difference between discussing religion itself and religon as it related to world affairs or speaking of it in general terms. After all, you can't talk about the Middle-East without talking about religion, for example. My understanding is the religious thread is for arguing about rather or not God exists and other such religious bits and pieces, so the earlier discussion of the Bible might be better placed there.

Its a lot more annoying though

People asking if they can have a moment of your time to talk about Jesus is more annoying then someone lashing you or burning you alive?

And, you know, this whole thing about people being sheep is ridiculous. People mistake being sheep for cultural cohesion. Religion is a facet of cultural cohesion. People developed religion partly as a way to explain the unexplained, but also partly as a way to foster a culture among a given people. Same thing with many beliefs. It's not a matter of one person dictating to others how to act, but rather a group of people collectively deciding how to act, and if you are born into that culture you will be brought up to act that way as well.

Just because culture is dead in the west doesn't mean people are sheep for trying to create one. Culture is what seperates us from the rest of the animal kingdom, people should take pride in it, not cast it out. If you see something distinctly wrong with a culture than try to change it, but don't throw away the whole thing out of frustration.

I agree with people that say that they love him,because you dont really have to believe in him,but if you not,in which god will you believe? If you dont believe in any of them (THERE IS ONLY ONE AND FOREVER WILL BE ONE) you will burn in hell,and still by not believing you just think,we born live and we die,it is true but if you believe then you have 99% of winning this one opportunity to go in heaven and imagine and create your dream house and the only thing for that to happen is to believe in GOD! if you dont then still you lose. if you read the bible you will find all the answers

In today's world you cannot say the bible has all the answers. The writers never had to deal with technology and the social problems that it brought.

The bible also contradicts its self in several areas. If I looked to the bible for advice on how to deal with gay people I would get 2 answers. I would be told to wait and let God smite them all for their sin, or I would have to treat them like any other person.

You are a hypocrite. Jesus gave everyone the same love and respect regardless of their beliefs, social status, or previous sins. The goal of all Christians is live their life the way Jesus lived, and clearly the above quote shows that you are not following that.

I think religion is starting to have too big of a role in todays world.

Once it starts to getting into door knocking conversation about how Jesus loves me, it gets annoying.

The original poster refers to Christanity specifically, other people who reply also critisize it, however once people try to defend it, everybody suddenly comes out of the woodwork, our replies now mean we're "door knocking", bringing up relgion (erm, replying anyone?)

Why do people take religion seriously? No really, why do people do that?

All religions have only been created by man's own perception, is it not?
Okay so maybe Christ existed and did good stuff and Buddha became enlightened and became a god because he knew everything but who's to say anything is for sure? These were mortals and mortals only no matter how great. How do we know if anybody is an incarnate of god? How do we know that everybody is not an incarnate of god? There have been others who have been great human beings in their own right and achieved much. You cannot simply deny them. They made a difference for the better as well. And who's to say what actually exists after death? What if hell or heaven is not an actual place but rather a perspective or a viewpoint? Do we not say or feel that we are in heaven when we feel overjoyous and everything seems blissful and oh so warm and fuzzy? Likewise, doesn't "all hell break loose" when there is something catastrophic happening?

Some may acquiesce but one has to try and learn and question otherwise they may be victims of the crimes of religion and may very well become the exact thing that they despise. How many times have we had wars in the name of god, huh? As far as I can remember the only major examples or heard of are the crusades and the so-called "Jehad" the terrorists are fighting right now. But are these not dangerous all the same? Whether or whether not god said to kill is a crime, may or may not make killing a crime but shouldn't you ask yourself what would actually be a crime. Who defines what is a crime? If so many people believe killing is evil then why did the crusades had men kill 'in god's name' and likewise why do the Jehadi terrorists now believe they are doing something for the better by doing exactly the same? To some people killing would be wrong whereas to others killing would be alright as long as it is justified and then there are those that believe killing is supposed to happen as some natural process or some other reason.

So basically, what I am trying to say is any and all religion and thought of a higher being is often undermined by what we see in this mortal world of ours and to actually worship a god is to simply believe in your cause and do what you must. Ever heard of the saying, "Work is worship"? Well that is exactly how our definition of god comes because we believe we were assigned some sort of duty from a higher being and depending on the nature of the duty, that is how our god comes to be what he/she/it is.

So before actually taking anything as a given, I want you to ask yourself, what is the truth and how is it defined? Is there something behind it, some solid reason? (personally I would think your life would lose meaning if you are a religious person and there is no such thing) "Nothing is true. Everything is permitted" (hint hint) It's exactly because of that that everybody's actions are different even if they believe in the same god and this is the reason why our laws must be based on what would make sense to do rather than blindly following some parchment that somebody wrote like some thousand years ago(if you take this as an insult then this is to all the holy books koran, bible, geeta [hindu bible] however it was not my intention to make it an insult).

So like yeah, I know this is BSing everything I said (who knows, something I might have said might not have made sense and that might have BSed it) but um... I'm gonna conclude by saying think and question.
