i'd say it is a bit different in the UK. the south-west, the most rural area, was largely wone by left/left-leaning parties in the last election in 2005, although as labour becomes less popular, so does the leftist share of votes, even though labour aren't that right-wing...
many of the cities, such as London, are turning conservative. this is in part, a protest vote, but it's still conservative, as opposed to liberal, but by other countries' standards, the British conservative party is very liberal, in fairness...
