Default Greenpeace - Crazy hippies or worried environmentalists?

Greenpeace was founded at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1971 as an environmental group. From time to time it pops up in the media due to its somewhat radical actions in protecting the environment, such as its supporters locking themselves into trees to prevent logging.

What's your view on Greenpeace? Do we need this kind of radicalism in the society or are the traditional channels of influencing such as voting always better? Discuss.

Some radicalism is needed. With the exception of the protests of the 60s and 70s, nothing ever comes out of protesting.

And voting is not really a good way to express discontent, that only happens every couple of years.

They think they're making a difference when really all their doing is putting themselves ironically in the news"paper".

I view them, and organizations like them, as the environmental-gestapo.

I go with crazed something or other – calling them hippies is an insult to hippies. We’re talking about a group of people whose primary mission it to demonize mankind. Sorry the “kill the humans, save the whales” motto just doesn’t fly with me. See, there is a big difference between environmentalists and conservationalists. The latter lives and works in the real world. I’m proud to be with the latter group of nature folks. We get more done working with companies and communities than causing grief just to get my political views on the nightly news.

No…I’ve known a few of these folks (unfortunately) and most of them need a full physiological evaluation – really they often are on the edge. Never seen someone have such despise for a species (humans). Hmmm, wait I thought they are for the environment, that includes us. Sorry these people have other agendas – the environment is just a convenient “hipp” way to get it out to the public and on the news.

Mr. Wojcik should make some friends
Default Re: Greenpeace - Crazy hippies or worried environmentalists?

I too sympathize, but disagree with their actions. In my opinion, it is too late to turn the tide of the world. We will just have to wait until major environmental changes take place before people will realize they are hurting themselves.

I sympathize with Green Peace. Sometimes I just get really pissed off at the government because of their actions (or lack thereof). We need people trying to protect the environment. Maybe GP's actions are radical, but at least they are getting publicity.

sorry for the earlier double post. The latter was in reply to one that Aero just did? Guess not, site is jumping - figured filefront would have fixed this problem.
