No doubt. But how does a history of violence JUSTIFY the death penalty?

I think Germany's history actually proves that a state should not be allowed to kill its citizens (by way of punishment).
Of course, a constitution would most likely not hinder an already established dictatorship from reintroducing the death penalty.

I think that the death penalty should be banned.

The course of action (punishment) I would choose would be to sit the accused in an enclosed room (no windows) by him/herself, with the book of his/her religion with photographs of the crime that he/she commited.

If that person cracks under the emotional strain, then they should recieve emprisonment with counseling, and parole only after a certain time period (no exceptions), but if they take psycopathic joy out of looking at the photographs, then they should recieve life emprisonment in small enclosed rooms, with only one very low quality meal a day (very similar to solitary confinement).
