The respect on police

Every day the police makes a lot of job in fighting against crime and protecting ordinary citizens from criminals. Their job in general is not the safest and well-paid job in the world but still there are many people who are willing to foster the law & order in their society. Sadly, there are always some police officers in the world that take bribes, use force without restrictions and even commit crimes of their own.

How big is your respect towards the police in your own country? Should the police get more freedoms and rights or should these be restricted? Does the police make its job and have you had some issues with the police? Discuss.

Pfffffff... Not any to the guys in my town. They walk around with their chests all puffed out and try to suck in that big flabby gut that comes out of their shirts. They pull people over for going 2 miles over the speed limit and give them long lectures. They stop by any teenagers they see walking around town and ask where are you all going at this time at night and it's like 8:00 at night. They leave their cars on to use up gas. Sometimes you will see the car in the same place all day running but no ones inside lol. One cop hangs around the caffe in town all the time. Oh yea and when you call them the phone rings 1 time then transfers you to the neighboring towns sherrifs dept. Lol

Oh darn I voted very little I meant in my town not the country. I have alot of respect for the ones in my country.

Cops in general in the US are great. They are paid and trained well. Most of them are friendly and happily preform their duties. Where I live they are good, we have had only 1 murder in 15 years(last year a boy killed his mom and raped her body).

I respect them becuase they are the ones keeping socity decently safe, but they can't stop all the nut jobs out there.

I have alot of respect for the men and women serving with the police department here, they are always nice and friendly, at least in my experience. They serve you freakin coffee when you are waiting to report something at the station. They dont get paid much, but choose to stand in the way of dangerous situations if they arise.

The police is the only thing between us and complete chaos.

I think that the (German) police have sufficient tools at the moment to fight crime effectively. But instead of reducing the personnel they should have more active officers. And more specialised experts.

In my opinion most of them are doing their job fine here. But I could be biased on this subject ;).

I'm actually looking at becoming a cop once I'm out of high school next year. My dad is a cop and he says its a great job. Plus, I don't think there is anything else I would like to do.

Around here, they are pretty decent people. I can't remember the last time there was a murder in my city. They do their job well, and for that, I respect them.

I respect the police greatly around here, though I might be biased since my dad used to be a cop.

what kind of scale goes from 1 to 7.... anyway I voted 5, they do their job, but I don't have to like it.

I respect people on individual merit, not the job they do.

Re: The respect on police

I give them a four. For the most part, it depends on the individual cop.

Some are nice while others are complete assholes...what kills me is that they pull you over for ridiculous reasons just to fill their monthly quota.

I respect the concept of the police, and all the officers who work to make the police what they ought to be. Corrupt officers don't even earn enough respect for me to consider them police officers.

I have met a lot of great cops, and a few assholes to. They put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe from the scum of the world. For that they have earned my respect. Perhaps the fact that I am not a skater with a "I'm the victim" complex helps.

They get a 3,no more. Cops are necessary to some extent but so are dentists, and who likes the dentist?:)

Oh you mean Emokids? Yeah they are retarded. Anyways, what cops are meant to do is a great thing. You can't judge it as a whole it's something that works on a case to case basis like any other job. Whatever people say, we need the police.

About a 6 for the police here. They do a good job, and have done for me in the past.

I can only speak for my local police force, but I have no reason to suspect corruption of any kind/use of excessive force etc.

Well, it could have been 4-10 too but 1-7 will also do the trick ;)

I have a great respect towards the (Finnish) police and it's making a great job with limited resources. All police officers I have met have been at least somewhat decent. We would need a lot of new police officers to fight against crime and increase their rights as currently they are quite limited and protect the criminals better than law-abiding citizens.

What is worrying to me is that 16 % (4) of the answers are "1" so it's like the police force should be disbanded. Could someone who have answerred "1" argue, why he has so low respect on police? I and many others would appreciate it.

Huffardo November 6th, 2005 03:05 AM

Re: The respect on police

I voted 7, I have absolutely nothing to complain about the Finnish police, they should have more resources so that they would be able to do more patrolling and thus be closer to a potential crime, but that is not their fault.

I happen to follow the law in most issues, so maybe someone more criminal might feel abused when getting fined because of not having a proper light on their bike. :p

Re: The respect on police

cant really complain too much about police in the uk, main problem isn't their fault, its a lack of money so there aren't as many police around as i would like. i have a friend who is in the force and when you hear that if he arrests someone it can mean 4 to 6 hours of paperwork (statements and other crap that i cant remember ) . seems that all the government want them to do is catch speeding motorists not the real criminals.

Re: The respect on police

I voted one, the only thing they have done around here, ever, which didn't make a difference, was find a torture room with no one in it.
Well the have caught people before, but not many people and it hasn't made a difference to crime, normally they are too fat and slow to catch anyone anyway.

And the only thing I hear about them doing in the rest of the country is hunting innocent motorists and sending armies out to find out about two little rich girls who have gone missing.

police in Bangladesh work only for the rich and corrupted.

I have the fullest respect for the Swedish police. IMO they do a great job but they need more resources, I'd like to see more police officers on patrol.

Re: The respect on police

Depends on the reason as to why they entered the police force, if they joined because is it something that they really wanted to do and to help the community etc etc then I have respect for them. If however they joined because they lacked qualifications for other jobs and are just doing it without really caring (and doing a poor job) then they dont have my respect. I respect people who are hard working and dedicated to their profession, whatever it is. I hold policemen in no higher esteem than abulance crews, doctors, nurses etc. or fire fighters.

I'm making an assumption here (based on other Asian countries) that it's possible to buy your way out of nearly anything. Just out of interest, how much would a minor traffic offence cost; speeding for example?

I respect what the police department stands for and those who serve justice with pride. However some of those seem to be total "close to a bunch of nazis" right winged whores who rather abuse their position then use it. Most of the police is doing a fine ob though, let that be clear.

Police are over worked and underpaid..Other than the military, have the highest risks. With all positions of higher power comes higher responsibility, humans are humans, greed, power etc. There will always be a few bad apples in the mix, but respect and support the vast majority who put there lives on the line to protect your way of life.

generally from what I see drivers bribe the police...100 taka,50 taka.

I pound=110 taka.

Re: The respect on police

It varies, they don't have a complete list on the site http://www.police-information.co.uk/...dpensions.html but IIRC you can get 100,000 + in the higher jobs

As for respect, for the police in England, you're barking up the wrong tree. If I get into trouble I'll trust to myself and call the police once it's over thanks all the same, they're so crappy where I live that I find the knives in the kitchen a much more reassuring thing than the police station in town.

I support are Police. They help us, there for us, and are here to protect us. I just don't like how people go and try to sue the police saying they are racist and like to beat people up when the guy was trying to beat them up and run away...
