Actually he was impeached he was just never removed from office. Plus Clinton was one of 3 presidents ever to be impeached. Now THATS an honor.

One of two. Nixon was never impeached, he resigned before they could start the process. The only other presidend impeached was Andrew Johnson, Lincoln's Vice President. After the civil war congress was very Republican, and hell bent on punishing the South and giving the freed slaves rights. Johnson was a Northern Democrat, put up as Lincoln's running mate in 1864 to gain the support of more Northern Democrats, who vetoed much of congress's progressive legislature. Their clash was inevitable, luckily for the sake of justice the charges didn't stick. What congress did was wrong because they overstepped their powers, but I can only imagine how much better off the US would have been back then, and in the 60's, had Lincoln been around after the Civil War.

The way I see it, Clinton committed perjury by lying under oath, so he deserved to be branded as a liar and impeached; however since he never should have been placed under oath in the first place because it was no one's business, he shouldn't have been convicted, nor was he. Thus, IMO, justice was served. He shouldn't have been interrogated, but still he shouldn't have lied under oath.

Did you just not read? Impeachment means nothing, its an accusation, it is not a verdict or sentence

uhhh...

Andrew Jackson deserved to be impeached. The specific act that lead to his impeachment was when he fired the Secretary of State for cooperating with the Republicans which violated the Tenure of Office Act.

And Crazy Wolf, impeachment is an accusation but it can lead to you being kicked out of office in the most dishonorable way possible so I think it's safe to say it's a little more than just an accusation.

Impeachment is like prosecution, it is very serious and people will remember you for being prosecuted even if you are found not guilty. He deserved to be impeached because he deserved to have that black mark next to his name in the history books. That's not to say that people that are found not guilty should have anything held against them, they shouldn't and legally prosecution can't be used in such a way (for employment, eligibility and such), but that still doesn't change the fact that when people remember Clinton 100 years from now, the first thing they will think will be impeachment.

Johnson violated it, but it was a power grope on the part of the legislative branch that was quite unconstitutional, as it and all acts of its nature were eventually ruled by the supreme court. This act was devised specifically for Johnson since they were having so many problems with him (passed in 1867).

Let me correct myself: I said Andrew Jackson in my previous post, I meant to say Andrew Johnson.

Very true. This brings the Kobe Bryant rape trial to mind. I'm not going to state my opinion on the matter (wow, that's a first :p) but I will say that before that happened he was my basketball "idol." After he was accused of rape, I lost all respect for him, even though it was probably consentual between him and the accuser. Regardles, it was adultery because he was already married. And what did he do to apologize to his wife? He bought her a diamond. Wow, what a great guy.

Wow...what a nice off-topic post that was!

THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IS NOT ENTITLED TO SUCH A PRIVATE LIFE. HIS DECISIONS REFLECT THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. He was our leader, and made an utter fool of himself!

Good point amoreelite, but no need to shout. other politicians have had their careers ruined for much less serious things. Ducacous (however you spell it) had his career ruined by riding in a tank for gods sake.
