Windows for Warships |
Re: Windows for Warships hmmm, isn't this what happened in Terminator3? |
Re: Windows for Warships Are you sure you wish to fire.......... Warning Incoming torpedo.... Take evasive action...... Are you sure? Plush they would crash about 8 times a day |
Re: Windows for Warships lol one of the british forces tried a windows system b4 i belive but sent it back due to issues with other parts of there hardware and stability issues, |

Dread it is was skynet that was to be like Ai and get rid of coputer virues and hackers for the military but it had other plans:evilgrin: |
Re: Windows for Warships Ha ha ha... Sucks for the navy. If it works out anything like my computer, they'll end up with three of the same versions installed at the same time, which always tries to install norton anti-virus when they run solitare, or any other application for that matter... |
Re: Windows for Warships Well, I just hope they don't get the literal blue screen of death when a torpedo comes in. |
Re: Windows for Warships What is so bad about Windows? My computer never freezes or anything. |
Re: Windows for Warships You are lucky. And will it be called Portals? |
Re: Windows for Warships 1 Attachment(s) I can see it now. . .There's a reason I abandoned Windows several months ago. http://www.gamingforums.com/attachme...id=17318&stc=1 |
Re: Windows for Warships Thats a great picture Mr. Sheep. Seriously though, what are the RN thinking? |

For Instance right now I am running Music/ Downloads/ Opera(Internet browser)/ and Trillian (Instant Messager) and thats enough for Windows to start closing programs because it can't keep track of it all. Windows is great for the Internet User and for some Business people, but if you are a serious gamer, or someone that just likes to spend 3+ hours a day on the computer you will notice unstability fast. Running Ships off of this is just retarded because you are going to have to have the computer running all the time and that really gets Windows confused. I would say 20% of the times I leave my computer running over night I find in the morning it freezes 20 minutes after I leave it. |
Re: Windows for Warships Well, I use XP, and it never fails unless I screw up really bad. As the Navy is composed of people trained at taxpayer expense not to screw up really bad, I don't see too much harm. |
Re: Windows for Warships Windows is OK for most purposes, but I wouldn't want to risk my life on it. I work with twelve year old SVR4 unix mainframes, they are never rebooted, because they never crash. Windows servers on the other hand... I'd give them a couple of months at the most, before something or other screws up. |
Re: Windows for Warships My winXp on my laptop never freezes. I think the computers that freeze are mostly underpowered 10 year old computers... like my schools computers. But then again,... I have an old IBM that I use sometimes.. and it uses win98 and it works perfectly.... |
Re: Windows for Warships Hmm, if it's anything like last time most of the critical systems will have people from software development companies down to write the programs and the windows system will just do the background work (file handling etc). Still windows does like to force everything to go through it to get to the hardware :uhm: The question is would you trust your life to a program that has gaping holes in the security and proven stability issues? I know I wouldn’t. |
Re: Windows for Warships The Canadian Gov't uses a specialized OS in a lot of their newer naval hardware (for Running weapons, etc) including the Halifax class cruiser...but they still use some windows based servers for more domestic things....i'll try and find a link to more info on it..... *edit* Here's some more info. It's a whole system, not just an OS. http://www.atlantic.drdc-rddc.gc.ca/...COMDAT_e.shtml It uses custom hardware, as well. |

well i dont know why your comp plays up so much i've been running mine for 9 months now,i've uninstalled and reinstalled programs and even had viruses, trojans, spyware on it but it still runs fine. the only problem i had was a hardware fault going back to the topic i actually work in the naval dockyard in plymouth,i deal with naval personnel every day (im civilian myself) and its seems they have their braincells removed on entry to navy, must be a part of the training procedure. i dont actually know what systems they use on the ships but if they were not confident it would be 100% safe it would not be accepted its damn funny tho :) |

Re: Windows for Warships Warning! Driver for device "cannon" did not pass Windows (r) Logo testing and could be not safe to use... |
Re: Windows for Warships Well, this means two things. Wars will either be very, very bloody indeed, or take no lives whatsoever (not counting suicide, which would surely occur with all those guns around). But one thing's for sure. Wars will never be short again... |
Re: Windows for Warships Every ship will be painteed blue with white lettering so as to blend in. ;) |
Re: Windows for Warships You can just imagine it though. AN incoming missile needs to be shot down, but that process causes windows to knacer up. Anti-missiledefence.exe has caused an illegal operation and will now shut down |
Re: Windows for Warships LMAO, there'll be CTRL ALT DEL keys on every deck  |

Do you think this is exactly what ol' Bill had planned from the start? I'd love to see some of the minutes from their high-level meetings. I bet the words 'domination' and 'bombs' feature in at least one of them. |
Re: Windows for Warships This is way to easy, I wont ever bother.. All Im saying is Id love to see that happen!! |
