Trouble with Portal: The First Slice

Hi guys!
I downloaded the Portal demo over Steam, but there's an issue. The game is great, but if I either stay too long on a level, fire to many portals, or get to level 6, the computer just restarts. Like I hit restart on the Windows toolbar. I wondered if anybody here had experienced that crashing, and if so, how they fixed it? Thanks,
