Warning, this thread may cause WHIPLASH (Metal)

Warning: Viewing the following videos may cause substancial injury to the neck, as well as moderate to severe concussions.

My hope here is to help show some younger kids the light. Drag them away form nu-metal bands like System of a Down and Linkin Park, and into the realm of real heavy metal. This is going to be a thread I keep expanding on, so check back in regularly for more headbanging epic goodness.

Thank God for Scandanvia, they've seen it fit to grace us with innumerable kick ass metal bands for generations now.

In Flames, one of the bands responsible for paving the way for the genre of melodic death metal. From Gothenburg, Sweden, these guys have been mixing intricate guitar solos, fast riffs, and heavy vocals for over 15 years. They haven't toured much Stateside, but they're becoming one of the most popular and famous metal bands out there.

My Sweet Shadow, Rock am Ring 2006

Touch of Red, Hammersmith 2004

Leeches, Graspop 2006

Children of Bodom is an epic fusion of black, power, and melodic death metal. They hail from Finland, and have an amazing stage presence. Guitars are blazingly fast at times, and melodic at others. More use of they keyboard than In Flames, but works very well.

Lake Bodom, Stockholm 2005

Angels Don't Kill, Stockholm 2005

In Flames destroys! I've always loved the band, unfortunately due to the fact that I have a bad habit of spending all my money on skateboarding, I never have been able to pick up one of their albums. I've just borrowed albums and burned them onto my computer, but someday, I shall get one of my own.

Children of Bodom are pretty good as well, but I haven't heard as much from them as I probably should.

Mastershroom November 15th, 2007 01:40 PM

In Flames wins. I've always wanted to see them live.

Force November 15th, 2007 09:06 PM

Children of Bodom are power/speed metal with harsh vocals and In Flames are basically nu-metal now. Both of them are just overrated crap in my opinion. This is metal:

Captain Fist November 15th, 2007 09:49 PM

Overkill is good in small amounts. Overkill sucks in overkilled amounts.

EO Violation November 15th, 2007 10:21 PM

Focusing on American metal this time. Up now we have Lamb of God, one of the pioneer bands of the Metalcore genre. Blazingly fast drums, heavy and hard guitar riffs, and deep growling vocals unlike any other. These guys always put on one helluva show.

Lamb of God, pure American metal.

Hourglass

The Subtle Arts of Murder and Persuasion

What I've Become

Chimaira! Now these guys are the shit! Use their album Pass Out of Existance to get me motivated for morning PT, right after I wake up. Any band named after a lion-headed monster better be fuckin' hardcore, and these guys deliver.

SP Lit

Pure Hatred

The Dehumanizing Process, Live

Mastodon (weird fuckers), uhh, whalecore anyone? Heavy influences from groove metal, progressive metal, and about half a dozen other sub-genres. They really are a unique band with a great sound.

The Wolf is Loose

Blood and Thunder

Crystal Skull, Live

EO Violation November 18th, 2007 08:29 PM

Back for some classics this time, the Big Four. Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax. No stories for these guys, if you don't know them, then you're in the wrong damn thread.

SLAYER!

War Ensemble

Raining Blood

South of Heaven

METALLICA!

Battery

One

For Whom the Bell Tolls

MEGADETH!

Set the World Afire

Lucretia

Tornado of Souls

ANTHRAX!

Caught in a Mosh

Madhouse

Medusa

do_NOt_ENTRY December 1st, 2007 05:32 PM

None of these bands are very good, at least not anymore.

Captain Fist December 2nd, 2007 10:10 AM

How so?

They've changed their sound too much. Watered it down imo.

Guess you haven't heard Slayers latest two albums then. They're actually quite brutal for "just" thrash metal.

Slayer's later albums suck hard. And what do you mean quite brutal for 'just' Thrash Metal?

I disagree. I like them a lot. Their 90 albums sucked hard though, no question about it.

And brutal for "just" thrash metal. Slayer are basically pushing the edge between Death and thrash. Christ Illusion is really heavy, at times I wondered if it was Death metal with less harsh lyrics. Honestly.
That's not to say I don't enjoy death metal though, just not the really heavy bands. I do enjoy a good deal of Necrophagist and Testament (Demonic, the album, y'know, their death metal album) here and there.
