Reply to "Editing your Posts!" by 'Gizmo'

I'm sure that your job as an admin/mod isn't just to delete and ban people.

You are given tools and edit other people's messages and/or merge topics or posts (certain forum software for the latter.).

So, if someone accidentally hit the post button, and add on something they've forgotten, it would be nice if the moderator would help these people bring the second post to the first, and then delete the second/repeated post.

I'm sure you've done that already, though...

Gizmo does not delete posts for no reason. He's a totaly great mod and I think you have misunderstood him.

WJTW January 5th, 2003 12:59 AM

Erm... did I mention about this?

I just said he should help the people who double posted to merge their posts together.

When did I mention anything about his Power of Blasting Messages into Oblivion?

If someone accidentally hit the post button, and want to add something they've forgotten,

then they can edit their message
by clicking

on edit

on the right side underneath there post.

Yes, you have a point there.

But people might think it is OK to post like that. People that posted prior to the post by Gizmo, of course. People posting after that in this fashion is to be faulted.

I think these rules should have been stated since this board is started. I don't know when it was started, though...

But still, the mods should try their best to help the people who forgot or not aware that the Edit button is there.

I don't know why I am replying to that post... I think I've got nothing better to do...

It's not really the mods fault b'coz sometimes people double post to increase their post count.
It's hard to be a mod.
I would'nt mind being one though.

Yepp. I was a mod on another forum but quit after a few days cos the board was spammed like crazEE! I'm looking to becoming a mod again though.

JixyJeehad January 5th, 2003 07:57 AM

Id wanna be a mod too but I wouldnt wanna pay for it and I have a serious issue with Censorship, Censorship is the devil!

Censorship isnt protecting a mind from pollution, its isolating a mind from reality, you cant hide it forever so why hide it at all?

Giz January 5th, 2003 08:08 AM

What I meant by Edit your posts, is that there are many ways that people abuse this.

One, the famous "Bump" Which I can happily say does not happen here.

Someone will post, then post again if no one else posts a reply.

Two. If someone posts some information about something, then relizes that they may have left something out, and would like to add that info, just edit the above post, and not start a whole new post just to add something you forgot. If you cannot edit your poost for some reason and you feel it is very important that you get this info out then by all means post again.

I have just seen alot of people abuse this, and mostly to increase there post a\numbers, or to bump there thread. But it has been along time since people have been abusing this, and these forums are looking really good.

:)

also Ive had mods and mod wannabes ***** at me about "protectin the children" and gay crap, yet I see your icon of some guy and wonder, what makes you so special that these people dont ***** at you?

AutoCept January 5th, 2003 11:24 AM

I'm guessing that this is refered to me, My avatar is a custom skin I have made for my personal use. Thats all.

JixyJeehad January 5th, 2003 11:55 AM

not not you autocept, gizmo I mean

AutoCept January 5th, 2003 12:06 PM

Oh, that.
I sort'a wondered about it myself.

wangdexian January 6th, 2003 12:23 AM

This forums are the greatest i've seen and i would love to work here for free.

Xenomorph January 7th, 2003 10:02 AM

I've deleted a few double-posts, and the occation spam posts/thread. However, I do remember having a problem with the post editing of the FilesNetwork boards before I was a mod. There was some sort of silly time limit on how long you could go without editing a post. I don't know if it still exists now (can't really test it), but it would cause a problem for people wanting to amend their posts.

EXiT January 7th, 2003 10:32 AM

It does happen often* what Gizmo said in his second point. I've seen people string about 6 posts one ofter the other just minutes apart. It is possible to merge threads and edit posts and everything which I did when I had time, but when the users themselves have the power it just makes sense to help keep things in order ;)

EXiT

*Often when I was around.. I don't know what the situation is like these days :) Looks like it's improved

Edit:
Whoops! Xeno it says I edited your post but I actually didn't ;) I just pressed the wrong 'edit' button and didn't realize lol :o

Xenomorph January 7th, 2003 10:39 AM

lmao. A butterfinger mod. Haha.
Oh, wait. A mod that accidentally pushes buttons........
EXiT, you're starting to scare me. :lookaround:

EXiT January 7th, 2003 10:51 AM

:naughty: muahahaha

EXiT

ps. I'm not technically a mod anymore ;)

JixyJeehad January 7th, 2003 12:44 PM

JixyJeehad is referring to me guys. I emailed him/her about how we try to run a "family orientated" site here, yet Gizmo has a pic of this Dragon Ball Z character showing everyone whos number one.
Fact is JixyJeehad, Gizmo is head honcho (as far as I know anyways), he can tell you "Don't #$@%(*^ curse in here" & get away with it because it's his show. His avatar is one of them thin grey line area type deals, but even if it wasn't, he can do whatever he likes because its his house.

wangdexian January 8th, 2003 01:26 AM

I almost put an avatar like Gizmo's.

Giz January 8th, 2003 06:55 AM

If my Avatar is disturbing someone, please PM me and I will remove it right away.

This is the first time anyone has said anything about it, and its not that dear to me. It is Vegeta giving someone the finger. I didn't think we would really have anyone on here that would complain about it, seeing that you would have to be a super christian freak to actually give a danm about something so sinister.

But, if you want it gone, I will remove it, just send me a PM saying that it is bothering you, and its done.

And JixyJeehad, Your on thin ice as it is, seeing that I have been getting alot of e-mail,s about you.

Enough with the Spam, and the attachments.

Thanks,

gIzMo
