Downloading and spawning skins, not working!
 

A few years ago when I had this game installed I was downloading all sorts of skins off this site and have a jolly ole time. Now I download skins, and move the pk3 file to the gamedata/base directory. When I go into the game and do the NPC Spawn deal, it can't or won't spawn anything I download. What am i missing here?

Like I download a Batman skin, and the file name is batman2.pk3 . Should I be typing NPC Spawn batman. Or batman2? Guess it doesn't matter since neither work. I'm running this game on Windows Vista 64 bit. Could that have something to do with it? Please help, getting tired of fighting the stock characters lol.

does it have the .npc files in the pk3?

I would hope so, how else could you use the skin? There's no way to open the actual PK3 files I know of so, I can't check. Used to be you download Vader, spawn him and fight him. His NPC name was usually the file name.

first of all you are wrong
download pakscape from jk3.filefront.com
open the pk3 in pakscape
if there is no npc file then
send me the pk3 via pm and i'll sort it for you

Bah, turns out I'm a retard as I'm sure you guessed. :)

I was downloading "skins" rather than models lol. Downloaded a few from the models sections they all seem to have NPC files, and spawn readily. Sorry about that. :)

Just to clear two things. Skins and models don't need NPC files to work and you can open .pk3 files with Packscape (as mentioned above) or some archiver, like WinZip, WinRAR, 7-zip, etc.

PK3's are actually zip files. Windows is usually anal about it, so you'll need pakscape. On a mac, right click and unzip.

Also, skins can have NPC support just like models. However, not all authors include npc support. You can either make the NPC yourself by looking at other NPC files and learning the format, or theres a tool on jkfiles that simplifies the process. Cant remember what its called though.

Yeah I got it, I found most everything I want. It would be nice to be able to create NPCs from the skins as the skin selection is much richer. Is there a tutorial anywhere?

And if anyone could make one, the one I really want an NPC for is the Emperor. Episode III Palpatine, Jedi Knight 3 Downloads, Jedi Knight 3 Star Wars He should be amazingly powerful I would hope!

I can spawn him in JKA as well, I just like JKO better. It's better than nothing, I really appreciate the effort. :)
