Default How do you get people into your server?

My Jedi Academy Xbox version clan has decided to transfer to the PC after staying loyal to the Xbox for 5 years. I currently have a home based server set up(eventualy planning on renting one) but no one seems to join it. Can someone give me some hints on how to attract people to my server. We have a very organised and thought out clan. We focus on training our less skilled players and clanmatches.

The Dark Council

To sum it up I know many people would really enjoy being in this clan I just need some tips on how to get people in my server so I can recruit them.

Putting your server high on the list is a good starter, to do this you do not put dots... it may look like there are dots at the beginning of the server name but those are infact Euro signs €€€€€€€. The more Euro symbols you put at the beginning of your server name the higher it will be...but being the highest isn't always the best and I would suggest being near the top WITH your clan name/tag still in the name (not just dots) for example

€€€€€€€€€€(JAWA)

Another good way to attract people is to add bots if there are no players, 5-7 bots is a good amount.

Have good admins (depending on which mod you use) so players will come back and you'll get regulars.

Make sure your server is paid for not home hosted... unless you have a separate connection dedicated to your server it won't be a good idea because whenever you download anything from anywhere in your house it will lag the players on your server and no one likes a laggy server. If you do use a home server I'd suggest asking for donations and going to a server provider such as Alchemic Servers (the site is currently being revamped so if you're interested email the manager directly via email)

If you're thinking of playing and no one else is on but bots, still play... this will eventually attract others to play especially in your clan. If your clans gets into the routine of not playing when no one is on then no one will ever play :P.

That's all I can think of right now, hope that helped .

You might want to skip out on the Euro symbols. In my experience it's more likely to get your server ignored. Everyone I ever speak to tends to skip the entire top half of the server browser, if they ever use it at all.

Aye thats why I advised not using too many as from my experience 3-5 is usually about right.

To add the euro symbols simply copy the ones I gave you above and paste them into your server name.

To many servers do that now. In the grand scheme of things It does not do much because so many other servers do it and the typical jka player would view the server as a noob server trying to bump its way up the server list.

Best you can do is go in the server yourself and try to get some friends in and try to stay in the server as long as you can. Actually noticed that switching to tffa at times can get a good number of people in the server as long as you have decent settings. I have my own paid for server and Ive been on it alone for at most an hour, eventually some people come on. Its useful if you have xfire aswell and you show your game server data.

I've been hanging around a lot of long time JKA/JKO players and no one has ever mentioned the Euro signs looking noobish... it's a dying game so getting yourself noticed any way possible is the way to go and it has proven to work for our server and a lot of other servers I know of who use the same method. Call it noobish if you want but it brings in players which is what Bigx wanted to know how to do.

I would go on but my pings over 240 there and I don't like to go on servers where i get over 100-130. You have to many bots in the server to, its okay to have 1 or 2 to advertise the clan/website but the rest are just taking up server slots and have no use.
