How do i open up the console?

How do u open the console? I typed ~ but nothing happens. Should i be able to do this anytime during the game? Please help!

I think you can enable it in the advanced options. Then the ~ will work.

Actually, here is what you must do to enable the console: Right-click the Half-Life 2 icon on your desktop (or whereever it is), select Properties. Where it says 'Target,' go to the very end of the directory and type the following in (or cut & past from this post it's more convenient): -dev -console

Example: "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 220-dev -console

Beware though, that you cannot access the shortcut manually by going through C drive, Program Files, etc.; you must access the game via the desktop shortcut.

Look at my picture:
Then in the game hit the tilde ~ to bring down the console.
