Default Hammer

Hi all, Finally returned to filefront and looking to get back in to modding. My question is:

Is hammer the only way to make maps for HL2? Is there a way that i can use a 3d program such as 3DS Max?

Thanks,
Cow

i'm not sure if there's a plugin for 3ds max, but there is one for softimage xsi, of wich you can download a free version... you'll need to convert it to a hammer format becouse you have to do the compiling there... (unless you have a stand alone compiler)

so if you wanna use 3ds, download the free xsi with valve plugin
i think you can import 3ds files in xsi..
