It makes it look like the model of the weapon would need to be edited to include a muzzle flash?

I think the type of muzzle flash is contained in the weapon_gun.cpp file. But where it should be displayed is in the model.
When i was making a smg fire bow gun bolts i copied the crossbow code, made a few minor changes then ingame it is still using the crossbow muzzleflash but in the right place on the SMG.

I think CSS models are just kind of dodgey to use and not properly set up for HL2 (if they are what you are trying to put of flash on).

Hmm, then maybe I better not fool with it until someone writes a tutorial on how to do it.

I think Im gonna give up on this for a while. Ive had to re-do the whole sdk several times now and using VS 2005 doesnt make it any easier. Now for some reason my weapons are stuck left handed, not even the BuiltRightHanded and AllowFlipping will fix it.

hmmm, I think you just edit the files in (visual studio game_sdk solution->) hl -> source files -> HL2 DLL
Then when you compile the solution these make up the server.dll.

Dont quote me on that though.
