| I need to get closer..

found my copy of half life after many hours of searching, i installed it, and downloaded DoD and Virtual Paintball, i try to go on to servers and its telling me that HL isnt up to date, so i click check internet for updates. It says This copy of HL is upto date. So....i click on refresh list and brings up 10 gazillion (slight exageration there) servers and i cant join any DoD or Virtual Paintball servers because it says Cannot connect to a server with a different Protocol.
I know this has probably been answered in the depths of these here forums, but im just such a lazy ass i thought i would just re post....
If anyone could give me a link to a patch/update or anything that could help me, it would be appreciated =)
