| So as of late I've become moderately obsessed with military music of various sorts. Marches, ballads, and what have you. So anyways here is a thread to post all of your favorite songs from war or that were popular with soldiers for whatever reason. Here is my personal favorite, the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Started off as an abolithionist song, and was picked up by many in the Union army.
Another one I found that I liked.
MY German(and is it partly in Italian or something Al Vostra Signori does not sound German.) is not up to scratch so I mostly don't understand what they are singing about. Something about coming from various places. Sounds awesome though. Anyone else know some good military anthems/marches?

| Another interesting version of the Battlehymn of the Republic is "Blood on the Risers":
If you are interested in military music you should also check out Soviet marches. There are a few internet sites with huge collections of music, most of it is strange, but some themes are nice. "Farewell of Slavianka" or "If tomorrow brings war" for example. In that German song they song about going to different places during war and enduring hardships. It is unusual nowadays to say "wir kamen vor..." if you want to say "we arrived at", so that's why it may be more difficult to translate.

| I also like the Battle Of Stirling Bridge music from "Braveheart".
And "Garry Owens" from US Cavalry.

| I don't know why, but I'm always touched by Sillanpään marssilaulu (lyrics written just before the Winter War by F.E. Sillanpää, winner of the 1939 Nobel Prize in Literature).
Lyrics and a lousy translation of them
