Hmmm...someone seems to be missing from the list.

India to test submarine-based missile - Yahoo! News

Quote:

If the test is successful, India will be capable of launching missiles from air, land, ships and submarines, and it will join an elite group that includes the United States, Russia, France and China, experts said.
Is it just me or did someone get passed over on that short little list?

They have a cop out; that list "includes," doesn't mean they have to list everyone.

I do agree with you though, doesn't make a whole lot of sense to leave the UK offa that list now does it?

It seems awkward that India is technologically advanced while socially still backward.

They sure got their priorities... :uhm:

Well, that's how poor nations can play with the big dogs. They must sacrifice something to get that good, and with over 1 billion people to take care of, it is easier to just ignore them and focus on competing with the rest of the world militarily(PRK)

The UK does not have any land based missiles.

IIRC the UK used to but not sure when they quit. Globalsecurity.org says they operated US built missiles for awhile too.

As far as I know, since 1998, the United Kingdom only has one nuclear delivery system currently in its arsenal and that is the sea based Vanguard class ballistic missile submarines. So the article is right, the United Kingdom is technically no longer in the "elite group" but they are certainly capable of rejoining the group whenever they wish.

However, using the criteria in this article France also does not fulfil the requirements to be in this "elite group" because they no longer have a land based nuclear component.

I guess the priority now is killing people rather than helping them, it certainly seems easier. Sad Mad World

I don't think India would be so keen to develop this weapon system if they didn't have mortal enemy Pakistan sitting on their border and China co-operating with Pakistan on a number of Military equipment projects.
