In a series of skirmishes and wars those areas became Pakistan and Kashmir. Kashmir was a independent country or Kashmir and Jammu til 1857 when it came under British rule.
There has been alot of conflict between the Muslim and Hindu populations there with India supporting the Hindu's and Pakistan supporting the Muslims there.
Pakistan controls the northwestern half, India controls the south and central and China controls the northeast. China invaded the area in 1950's and built a military road leading to western Tibet, a action which was a prime cause of the October 1967 "Sino-India war". |
