Default M1A1 vs M1A2

Ok, this has been bothering me for sometime, what is the difference between the M1A1 Abrams Tank, and the M1A2? Thanks!

The M1A2 has a much more advanced targeting and sighting system suite. The newer versions of the M1A2 also carry depleted uranium armor, greatly enhancing the tanks protection against all types of AP rounds.

The M1A2 is basically an improved and updated version of the M1A1, updated command and control, an improved commander's weapon station and second generation thermal imaging that has longer visual range.

There is no M1A3, and never will be.
The main differences between M1A1 and the M1A2 are the CITV, 50x power thermal sight, thermal sight for the driver

Abrams tanks are not produced anymore. In the near future, there will be no more heavy armor. The whole army is switching to more flexible, mobile force. The Stryker vehicles are supposed to replace most current armored vehicles. Read the current defence news
