Actually Colonel Ida is the only member of the conspiracy still alive and was filmed and interviewed for a documentary detailing the US version of events based on a book entitled "The Last Mission"

Of course they wouldn't have surendered. The Japanese are a very honest and honorable people, their culture in the military at that time was to serve Japan and the emperor. If you have ever read about Samurai you know that the Japanese would kill themselves (Sepuku) before surrendering. Luckily, their government realized the damage the bombs did.
