HALO CE on vista problems

kay, so since halo 3 came out, and i dont have an xbox 360 i decided to go back and play halo 1 on my computer. i heard of this supposedly amazing thing called Halo custom edition. so i download and instal..

the game runs, however the screen freezes on the "halo welcome" screen (the one before the menu with single player, multi etc..) there is sound, and i can navigate thru the menu blindly, and i even managed to start a slayer game. the audio works as if i was playing but the screen remains on the welcome screen of halo.

this problem occurs on a sony Vaio VGN-FZ11Z laptop, with windows vista.

ive been reading posts for the past couple of weeks on many forums yet no one seems to have posted of a similar program. i even tried reinstalling halo pc, and halo ce, as well as redownloading halo ce.

Please help.

Urh well Sony Vaio mostly come with Intel graphic media accelerators, which suck for gaming. Post the system specs of you're laptop. Also did you try left clicking on the halo CE icon, go to compatibilities, and click run as administrator?

Urh wow that must have cost a lot looking at the blue ray, nice. But you didn't post the video card. You have to list it because if it's made by Intel or some other onboard video card then it wouldn't halo that well. Also try updating you're video card drivers.

its an nvidia geforce. fully updated drivers. it runs halo pc normally, so i geusse it shouldnt be a problem for the ce?

Go to compatibility tab again, choose the option run compatible with and select windows XP SP 2.

Iwaschosen October 10th, 2007 02:21 PM

Well I'm out of ideas

It doesn't have those "commercials" as you call them anyway, its a copied version of the game exept made for modding and mapping.

So it just might be possible that you (iwaschosen) were clicking on the Halo icon, not Halo CE

Re: HALO CE on vista problems

I know this is an old thread, so if you have already found a solution then ignore this post, but if you are still in the search for a solution then try this.

1) Go to control panel (easy access in start menu)
2) Select hardware and sound
3) Scroll down until you find your video card. Since you are using an NVIDIA GeForce, you should find an icon with the NVIDIA LOGO and it will say NVIDIA CONTROL PANEL. Click on this icon.
4)The first page you see will be called Adjust Image settings with preview. There should be a green NVIDIA logo spining around and a few options and a slider bar to select under the logo. The three options you should see are
A)let the 3d application decide
B)Use the advanced image settings
C)Use my preferance emphasizing: (will either be set to quality or performance depending on where you have the slider.)
5) Select Let the 3d application decide.

This should fix the problem you are having.
