Run Halo 2 on XP

My crash is similar to many of those described above...if the game window has focus (i.e. window with focus OR full screen), it does the HALO 2 title with the light shining behind it, but after a few seconds the audio cuts, and all that's visible is the mouse on a black screen. 10-15 seconds later, the game crashes silently, leaving my desktop resolution at 800x600. If I use version 3 of wowloader, the game throws two or three errors on startup but crashes the same; I'm at work and can't post them until later (I'm pretty sure they're the same as some other ones, though). I sincerely doubt any of the problems are hardware-related...

My hardware: Apple MacBook Pro w/ Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz (T7700), 256MB Geforce 8600m GT, 2 GB RAM (DDR667), 160GB HDD; dual-booting OS X (10.4.10) and Windows XP Corporate

My crash is the same as everyone else, I can have halo 2 running in the background, than it crashes when it has priority. I could not do that at all until I updated my Graphics card. The person that wrote the program thinks its a driver issue of some sort. I am going to rollback to different version of the my graphics card driver, I'll let you know how it works.

Its obviously not a graphics card issue, one guy has an 8600 and he gets the exact same crash as me, and i have an 5200.

Here's the thing, it could be any type of software that injects itself into other processes.
That list includes anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewalls, mouse software, keyboard software, skinning software and so on.
As long as I cannot reproduce this issue, I'm not gonna bother looking into it.

Oh, and from the logs I've seen pasted, it's obvious that the problem lies between the point the game creates it's DirectInput object and where it's supposed to create an DirectInputDevice object for using the mouse.
Again, nothing in my code is called or failing between those two points.

I just did a quick test and xinput9_1_0.dll is loaded between those two points.
My guess would be that you're missing that file.
You'll have to google to find out where to get it, OCT2006_xinput_x86.cab from \redists doesn't contain the right version of the file.

testing now. the 101.17 drivers from laptopvideo2go are giving me blue screens, so i'm going to switch back to the apple ones for now.

whoohoo! now i get to the main screen. however, one i "press any key," it takes me to windows LIVE sign-in. it asks that i enter the key and sign in to LIVE. right now it's throwing a firewall error code (according to the LIVE support site), but that's probably because i'm at work . as much as it sucks, i probably won't be able to really try this out until i get home later tonight. oh well. awesome work so far, abcba!

First thanks a lot for your loader! I only registered here to post this..
I've been trying to find the solution to the "after-logo"/focus crash with some people on another site without luck..
I've tried both the debug version and the 0.2 version, debug version gives me a few error messages and a log similar to ones posted here before..
I've tried disabling my antivirus, firewall and everything running on the computer, but I still experience the crash..
Tried disabling windowblinds too, everything possible.. Could outdated gfx card drivers cause this?
I also tried installing the xinput package that's posted, but it didn't help..

Hmm, seems like someone got it working with that.. What else is wrong with my comp then..??

ok i have no clue what was said, can someone simplefy how to make halo 2 vista install and work on XP? and here are my specs. im not shure i can play it, and plus if i have to go online to ativate i cant do that cuz i have a 26k connection
