Water Graphical Glitch I played through Halo on the PC two or three times now. I have run the game with high framerates, no problems in graphics or FPS. But now whenever I look at water in the game I see the water, in like a low quality form, and I can see the boxes that you would see when creating a map. I can't post a picture right now, I'm on a different computer. But when you create a map on a plain of squared boxes, it is like you can see through the water straight to the the the boxes. A little hard to explain, but any map creator or maybe even editor should understand. |
Re: Water Graphical Glitch I think we'll need a screenshot to get it, but don't rush. Post it whenever you get time and I'll see if I can help at all. |
Your computer specs might help too, some NVIDIA cards have serious issues with Halo. |
They've always performed better than ATi cards in my machine. I used to have a Radeon 9250 way back in the day, and it did a funny thing with active camo. It always showed up as one solid color, so it was still easy to see. Then one day I swapped it for an nVidia GeForce FX5200, and the performance was similar as far as framerate goes, but I could actually see through active camo now. Both cards were AGP format, 128MB. Now I use an nVidia GeForce 6600GT, also 128MB AGP, and I have no issues to speak of. |
Is that better than my ATi x1300 pro? As far as I know Nvidia has always been better and more games work better with Nvidia. I read somewhere that Nvidia cards have issues with anti-aliased issues with halo. That's not even a graphics option in halo.............. |

AMD Athlon XP 2400 Processor 1.25 GB of RAM ATI Radeon 9600 128MB Card Sata 140 GB Hard Drive My drivers are fully updated. No problems with any games usually, unless I am pushing my PC too far. I can somehow balance my system to higher graphics than it appears to be able to handle and maintain a good framerate. Spoiler: Spoiler: I came across another glitch. It has to do with turning shadows on. I came across it just recently when I re-installed the game. Spoiler: Thanks. I also have another question. I am recording video for a video review for my site. I need to know how to unlock all the levels through cheating. I don't have time to play through the whole game again and I tried google already. The cheat doesn't work. Thanks again. |
You might want to go to the official halo pc homepage because there is a list of graphics card problems and possible solutions. I remember seeing 9600 on the list. |
this happened 2 me 2... i just bought an ati instead of my old nvid. |
What model ATI pog? |
1GB RAM Ati x1300pro 250 GB HD Pentium D 2.80 GHZ with dual core technology This is mien Dell machine, plays Halo smoothly with all settings on max and resolution set to 1280x1024. |
I downloaded the 1.07 auto-patcher and updated the game. No difference. The water problem is still there. |
Very odd...I've never seen anything like it, with neither nVidia or ATi. Do take a look at the list of known issues on the Halo page. |
I found out the problem is not just on Halo. I was playing Far Cry and found the same problem with the shadows, but not with the water. There is also a problem with bullet holes on my enemies in Far Cry. They stutter in appearance. I'll get screenshots in when I can. I tried to find video issues on the site. No luck to what I am looking for. I just now thought about the question of if this is AGP Aperture related. I doubt it, but is it? |
I very much doubt if it is. Are you 100% sure that you have the most up-to-date drivers: Catalyst® 7.4 Display Driver for Windows XP Professional/Home Edition Checked on the MS website and no issues are listed there and the only problems with the 9600 were with the 256Mb type and were not these issues. The card is also listed as compatable. Have you got another graphics card you could borrow to see if the card is definately the problem? Edit: Wait, are you on Vista? |

All I found for my card were the problems you listed. No I do not think I can borrow any cards. The only cards we use in this house are 9600's, I do not know why either. And I doubt I could borrow one from a friend. I doubt it is my card anyways, it runs other games just fine. I've had it for about two years, that's it. Heck no! I'm avoiding Vista until it is as smoothly running as XP (or near it) and DX 10 is in full use. Around that time I plan to build a computer worthy of running Crysis on high (or perfectly really). |
Okay I'm going to upload the Far Cry shadow picture glitches. I'm sure I do not need to explain these. Spoiler: When I looks at this stuff the term "node graph" comes to mind. I do not know the first thing when it comes to node graphs but maybe you do. Would this stuff be related to node graphs in any way? Thanks guys. |
sunray in respose to sunray, a FireGL V7350. its freakin awesome. |
If you are talking about a new video card, I cannot get one. And like I said, my card is fine. It can run Source games without glitches or graphical errors on quite high graphics at nice framerates. |
Have a play round with things like quality and specular. They shouldn't be a problem, but lower settings/higher settings may make a difference. They do with the 9800. |
What do you mean? I'm not looking to fix performance problems. The shadow glitch in Halo disappears when you turn off the shadows. But that is because the shadows that are messed up are mainly the ones that are moving shadows. Of course there is some other weird look to things when the shadows are turned on. But I just want to fix the water problem. I do not really care about the shadow option in Halo. |
Thats what I mean. If you change settings around (probably to a lower level) what effect does that have on the water? EDIT: Sorry Justin, I'm out of ideas. I've been searching for your problem for a while, and I must say that it has never come up before as far as I can see. Not even the water error. I will keep having a look, but seriously, I am stumped. I will keep trying, but I have no idea. I'm really sorry. :( |
I'll start tweaking some settings. If anything new develops I'll let you know. Thanks. |
Nothing. I am going to try it out on my dad's computer when I can, he will be coming home soon and he is a little touchy whenever people install stuff on his computer without permission. But when I get home from school tomorrow I will install the game and find out if there is any difference. In the meantime, good night, and well no luck. |
