Whatever happened to this game?
 

What happened to Aftermath? First it was going to be out in stores come October 2005... and then... I never saw it in stores, lol. STEAM only? Is it worth buying on steam? I would MUCH rather have a retail version. Can someone fill me in on what happened and why?

the announced that the project was delayed.. it will be released in 2009

2009?!? Are you serious??? I read in a gaming magazine that a new Half Life 2 expantion was going to be released every three months after The Aftermath! Does this have anything to do with EA taking over Valve?

I heard that it's going to be released 1st-2nd quarter of 2006. Actually I think it was said in interview. Can't find it though..

There is going to be a retail version of it, it'll be around 30 quid according to game.

Also, this game has a name change. Renamed from Aftermath to Episode 1. Crappy name thought if you ask me, i like Aftermath more.

They changed it to episode one because there are going to be more of them, episode 2, 3 etc. released every 3-4 months

Yeah, You're right by that, but even that Half-life 2 had great graphics,
But i had expected some more levels like Half-life 1, Half-life 2 was a little too short. So they've better get up with something good :D

I have a question about the episodes of HL2 to come, I have HL2 and steam so I'm wondering if I would get the episodes for free (like how you get CSS free with HL2) because if the episodes are as long like about 5 chapters of HL2 then I think it isn't worth much money (maybe 10 dollars but not any more) so... does anyone know if it's free for you if you have HL2 and Steam?:confused:

Afraid not. I know it sounds strange because AFAIK these 'Episodes' will probably require you to have HL2 as it is (don't quote me; I think I've read it more than once but nothing official that I can think of) for the Source engine, but I do know (at least this much) for sure that Ep. 1 and subsequent 'installments' will have to be purchased, either over Steam or via retail outlets. The price I've heard quoted ranges between $20 (like DOD:S retail) and up to $30 Cdn., and while you can make up your own mind about whether or not it's worth it to you, I'm comfortable with that. If it was $50-$60 (say, like a full version of Battle for Middle-Earth 2) I'd have a problem with it, but if it's going to be like DOD:S for $20-$25 I think it's reasonable.

If it was only going to be released through Steam (as I recall was the first release plan, or at least a potential one) I'd be much less understanding. ;)

Bad news people it's release date has been pushed back again, valve say that the game is now coming out on 30th of may, but EA say it will be coming out on the 31st of June. Maybe that means it will be available for download a month before going on the shelves? I highly doubt it though, anyone got any more info than that?

The date of release is now set at the 1st of June, I wouldn't hold your breath though.

Yeah, thats a good point seeing as HL2 isn't workin for me. And I don't know how many times HL2 was pushed back, but it waas about a year late or something stupid like that wasn't it?
