Is it really worth the money? ah look was just wondering as i was gonna buy Half-life2 is it really as good as people say and what is the online community like. Is there plenty of severs and stuff like that cause i dont want to buy a 100 dollar game if it is crappy........ so like could some one tell me what it is like so i can buy it cheers [SC]Hawk |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Most people will say yes, and another most will say HELL NO! I am the other most. HELL NO! It's good if you happen to be a lucky prick with a leet pc and something to stop bs but i HATE it now.. recently a rather large update came out for it and since then I can't play it because a shitty memory error crashes my pc every time i play. check the steam forums for what i'm talking about. it also demanded the most recent drivers for my video card (Ati catalyst v5.5) and most other games have died since = big reformat time. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? i sometimes find HL2 overrated because my com cant take shadow rendering and water reflection... |
Re: Is it really worth the money? He's not asking how good it plays in your computer. If your computer sucks, how is that Valve's fault? Buy a decent machine and then play the game and tell me it's not worth the money. El_Destructo, having a good PC to run the game is not a matter of luck. Keep posting like that and you'll get in trouble. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? I think HL2 is best game I've ever played, I recommend it a lot. No bad memories about it, Memory error has happened me only twice in 7 months. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? I don't think Half Life 2 is still $100. Maybe in some shops, but on Amazon and other places like that its about $50. If you do get it, I recommend you get it from them. I got mine for $60 about a month after it came out and I am very happy with it. Plus you get Counter Strike Source, which is just awesome. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Half Life 2 is one of the best games I have ever played. Don't bother getting the fancy-dan limited edition or anything. I bet you could probably pick it up for about $50 now. Believe me, it's amazing. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Its good. I relly just got it for CS: Source. Good, but not the best game ever. Get it, there are some good mods comming. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? HL2 itself was BADASS. ....But..now I've finished it and uh.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzz o.k all you moders ..get with it. No I dont care to play it again with 'bloom effects". Or play"GarysMod" wich is just a mod that allow you to manipulate the game. CS source is just a huge let down. I want a full blown single or mutliplayer mod built on the HL2 engine. Honestly..after playing the any of the Battlefield series..CS source is like half a game. NIce graphics, but the same maps as the old CS with a facelift. God what a letdown. I swear ..as good as the singleplayer HL2 was ,I'm about ready to toss it in the garbage. Bt the time any good mods for this thing will be out,it will be too late. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Hey Hawk, {TLS}Night here. Yeah I would say HL2 is worth $50. You will spend a lot of time on it... it isnt one of those games that you beat and never play again. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Dear god, buy it its the best game there is because of the graphics gameplay etc. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? its a great game. not everyone has the memory errors or the studdering problems... |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Well, if your computer is good, you'll have a blast. If it's not, just wait until you have the right equipment. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? heh, dollars, nevermind me, but how is the online play?, my pc will pwn hl2 spec recommenadtions so i'm good with it, but i LOVE TO KILL ONLINE |

Re: Is it really worth the money? the replay factor is there, alot of mods are coming out, giving new possibilities to the game. Alot of servers and players too, just check there: http://www.steampowered.com/status/game_stats.html more info: http://halflife2.filefront.com/, http://www.hlfallout.net/, http://halflife2.net/ |
Re: Is it really worth the money? well again thers a load of Mods "in the making" but it seems thats always the case. They rarley get completed. Oh yea theres "Garys Mod". lol. Not really a mod. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? what about the online play?!? |
Re: Is it really worth the money? If you like throwing toilets at people's heads, it's loads of fun. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? hhmm ,the avatar sight won't let me in Fragger |
Re: Is it really worth the money? The what? |
Re: Is it really worth the money? I think he means that he can't edit his avatar. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? All I GOT TO SAY THAT HL2 & CS:Source - Rocks ! - Well worth the Money. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? You're right they do rock. And they're quite a bit cheaper than they were at release. For example I could pick up a copy now for 18 quid in the UK. When it came out I payed 27! |
Re: Is it really worth the money? I really recommend HL2 as well as CS:S...the nice thing about CS:S is that the more time you put into it the more enjoy youll get (for the most part) You can customize nearly everything in CS:S and the modding community is making new stuff everyday. I also like HL2 SP , has a great storyline and awesome graphics... |
Re: Is it really worth the money? i used to play hl2 alot (but ever since my social status has been upgrated i hardly play games anymore http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/smilie.gif) but when im bored ill play it and its always fun to just go in for a quick frag and come back out. the story line to me was great. just wish it was longer. ALOT longer (it was still pretty good though) css is pretty cool and i cant wait for the mods. if your thinken about buying i think you should cause when i played it was well worth my money. ok talken about has got me into the mood. ima go play some hl2 right now http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/cya.gif |
Re: Is it really worth the money? HL2 really is one of the greatest games ever made, alongside HL1 and LOZ:OOC, personally though, I'd buy the silver edition from VALVe online at the steam website, it costs $10 more and you get HL1, Counter-Strike classic, Condition Zero, ect... And when DOD:S FINNALY comes out, you can play it, of course, along with HL2. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? hmmmm I can play hl2 and css fine without mem errors but some mods and games i get the mem error. But yes it is worth it. There are going to be some literally amazing mods coming out soon that r gonna pwn the original game |
Re: Is it really worth the money? yes it is definitely worth the money, the gameplay is great. the single player is not as good as the first one in my opinion, but its still very, very good. online is awesome and has a good community. u dont get little 10 year olds who just betray u all the time like in halo. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? I got it for free.. and no It's not pirated.. it's part of ATI's gaming bundle. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Good for you I suppose, a lot of people got this offer though. Just ages after they were supposed to. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Half life 2 is awsome. Counter-strike source is awsome. Half life 2 and Counter-strike = cant get away from your computer |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Tell me about it. I say that I'll be off at half eleven and I end up on till like 1 o'clock. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? I to am wondering if it is worth getting. Up around my area it is still $100 |
Re: Is it really worth the money? 100 USD? Why not just order through steam? Even so, 100 dollars is worth it, you get HL2, HL2DM, CS Source, not to mention the tons of mods that are coming out for it. |

Re: Is it really worth the money? yes I saw he was from australia. I didn't know if he had converted however much it costs in Australian dollars to US, so it cost 100US, or whether it was 100 Australian. Apparantly, 100 USD is about 76 australian. So why can't he buy it over steam, and pay the normal amount? |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Definitely worth the money, I mean it’s not worth not to have it. but then If your computer is weak I could understand not wanting the game.. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? NO it's not worth it. I had a big long detailed message typed out but the board software ate it. But simply: HL2 is Steam-dependent, Steam is internet-connection-dependent, modding is way more difficult than it has to be and if I could mail back my copy of HL2 and get a refund I would. For modding, UT2004 does deathmatch-style play and is a lot easier to work with. ~~~~~~ |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Please do not revive threads, 3 weeks is to much |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Unreal Tournament 2004 is also very old now. Well relatively. Plus, once you get over the initial problems with Steam it's a brilliant game, so Steam dependency is negligible. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Get it.... BG mod is fun enough anyways... lol You don't have to have a super comp either, I got a amd socket 939 (64) 3000+, 512, and a 6600GT (PCI-E) and on the stress test a get 100 fps with all settings maxed out. More ram and it would be way better. I suggest you look for the best deal on 64 bit stuff, get hl2, and have fun. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? ok you stupid dumbass! ih you have at least 256 MB ram and a shit 128 MB card or a good 64 MB card pick this game the fuck up! http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/madx.gifhttp://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/madx.gifhttp://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/madx.gifhttp://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/pwned.gifhttp://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/madx.gifhttp://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/madx.gifhttp://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/madx.gif |

yeah if you didn't get my point... if you somehow missed my point, HL2 is a must buy. I have a (piece of crap, i must admit) P4 2.8 GHz, 128MB Nvidia Geforce 4 MX, 512 MB RAM, 17" LCD and god knows what awful motherboard and power supply and a sound blaster (live i think) sound card. I run it @ 16X/8X, high for everything but shaders and wait for VSync and it runs smooth unless i fill the screen with like 99 fucking explosions. GET THIS GAME |
Re: Is it really worth the money? yeah... ok this is an edited version of that last post: GET THIS GAME. IT OWNS! so long as you have at least 246 MB ram and a semi-decent 128 MB card, this should be no problem to run!http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/smilie.gifhttp://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/coolx.gif :uhoh:hope i don't get banned for the other 2:uhoh: |
Re: Is it really worth the money? lol. This game will run on a p3 700 mhz with a 128 mb agp 4x with 256 mb ram. How do i know? My dad plays it on his. Only problem is he cant enjoy the video quality that i can. (p4 3ghz, 1gb dual channel, 256mb nvidia 5700LE agp8x, some pos gateway MB) And BTW The power supply doesnt have to be fancy. If it supports the hardware you using then great, if not, get a new one. I have the standard that came with my case. Never had a problem. Only problem was with my compaq...PS fan went out and i had to replace it |
Re: Is it really worth the money? My specs DELL 1.99 Ghz processor 786 or so MB RAM (it also worked with 384 MB) 256 MB GeForce FX 5200 (PCI MODEL!!!) Half-Life 2 runs very well at these settings. Not to mention the insanely f***ing long list of games you get when you get Half-Life 2 Silver. Half-Life Source Half-Life 2 Half-Life 2: Lost Coast (soon) Half-Life 2 Deathmatch Counter-Strike Source Garry's Mod (imo, can be more fun than all of the above combined if you know how to use it) Opposing Force HL: Blueshift Team Fortress Classic Deathmatch Classic Day of Defeat Natural Selection The Battlegrounds Sven Co-Op Day of Defeat: Source (soon) Counter-Strike Counter-Strike Condition Zero Counter-Strike Deleted Scenes I'm not even counting the only slightly decent games that you might enjoy. Half-Life 2 is a package well worth it as long as you don't have an integrated card or a 56k connection. Just this one thing could keep you occupied for YEARS. I'm dead serious. |
Re: Is it really worth the money? Half-Life 2 Silver is definitely a good choice; many games and relatively cheap too. Everyone should sample it. |
