Default Half-Life 2 Stuttering Problem Fix Coming!

Apparently a website dedicated to fixing the infamous "stuttering" problem in Half Life 2 has figured out the issue and a fix is apparently forthcoming.

Quote:
A solution for the stuttering problem has been found and a fix is coming. I've been talking with Gary McTaggart about this today and it turns out that my texture management theory was correct. A patch will be coming for this issue that will load all of the required textures into video memory on level load, rather than doing it during game play. There is currently no ETA for this patch, but I will post an update as soon as I get more information.

Yeah, i said wot when i first heard of it, but then i found it at the end of the game, lol

It just pauses for a second or two with the sound stuttering. Not too serious though.

Good thing a fix is on the way too, i plan to play it again on hard without problems.

The texture memory was my theory too. I am surprised that game manufaturers do not include a texture memory preload option in the advanced options.

Doom 3 will advise you if you have insufficient memory for the highest detail (most texure memory recruired). If you proceed with under the miminum memory recruirements then the gameplay is smooth untill you move to a new texture area such as a room with disparate walls then the memory has to be refreshed which causes "stuttering".

While the hard drive refreshes the memory You will notice your hard drive light switch on. This would be in time with the stuttering.

The patch is a certainly welcome as there really is no need for a dynamic memory refresh if your machine runs 1GB of system memory with an AGP memory of 256 MB.
