How to steer first car

I am playing on a pc, using the keyboard. I just got into the first car, but cannot steer. I can go forward and reverse, but when I try to turn left or right, the car itself does not turn but my point of view. Please help!!

There's only one car, the one you find on the bridge. Check to see that the steering controls are set to A and D for left and right in the menu.
