Welcome to Half-Life 2: Deathmatch FAQ. Please read this first before posting on this sub forum. This FAQ covers basic info about Half-Life 2: Deathmatch along with answers to typical questions. For forum behavior and usage refer to FileFront Gamingforums FAQ, here you will only find additional rules and suggestions concerning this specific forum.
1. About Half-Life 2: Deathmatch.
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch is a multiplayer game set in Half-Life 2 world. It is available for every Half-Life 2 owner and distributed separately.
As every new VALVe's title it requires an account in Steam (VALVe's online software distribution system) in order to decript or download it.
Game's setting is the conflict beteween human rebels and trans human arm of Sector 17 overwatch around Half-Life 2 timeline. It's gameplay is lamost exactly same to the one in Half-Life 2, offering possibility of exploring it's features and few innovations in online game.
2. Additional information. Half-Life 2: Deathmatch is available to buy through Steam and is availalbe at retail in packages with Half-Life 2 or Counter-Strike: Source+Day of Defeat: Source or Half-Life 2 Game of the Year Edition. Half-Life 2: Deathmatch remains open to not only patching, but it is possible that it will still receive new maps and maybe features. It did in the past and none at VALVe stated that they stopped it's developement.
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch alone price is 9.95$. Game allows up to 32 player sessions.
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch requirements are:
  • OS - Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
  • Processor - 1.2 GHz Intel or AMD
  • Memory - 256 MB RAM
  • DVD - 8 speed
  • Video Card - DirectX 7.0 on PCI/AGP
  • Sound Card - DirectX 9.0 Compatible, 16-bit
  • DirectX - Version 9.0b
  • Multiplayer - separate registered version per PC
  • Network - TCP/IP compliant
  • Internet - Hi-speed
  • Input - Keyboard, Mouse

5. Frequent questions.

Q: Can I run Half-Life 2: Deathmatch if my PC runs Half-Life 2?
A: Yes.

Q: From where can I get VAC (VALVe Anti Cheat) for my server.
A: It's already included in the game.

Q: Does Half-Life 2: Deathmatch ship with Half-Life 2 retail editions or do I have to download it?
A: Only new EA editions ship with it, owners of older Half-Life 2 editions have to download it.

Q: Is Half-Life 2: Deathmatch a stand alone game?
A: Yes, but in most cases you get it with Half-Life 2 anyway, still you don't need it installed in order to paly it.
