Default Whats the deal with HALFLIFE?

I'd like to know why Half-Life runs like crap on two systems I've owned. I understand why it got choppy on my old 133mhz with 24mb ram and a 16meg banshee card but this is my system now and it still runs at around 5 fps when the action turns up!

333mhz k6/2
13 gig harddrive
128 mb RAM
32 mb RIVA TNT2 w/3d shutter glasses!

Can anyone here tell me why every game out there but yay old half life runs just fine?
Is there no satisfying this game? It's just as clunky in 640x400 D3D as it is in 640x400 OGL. I also upgraded to the latest version..(1.0.3 i think).
Let me know if anyone knows why this game is so power-hungry on my system. Thx.
