Manual Dialing
-Almost everytime you turn a corner in the game, you see phone numbers in cabs, billboards, etc. Naturally, you go and try them on your mobile in the game, expecting some random dialogue. Instead, you get a busy signal everytime you manually dial almost any number. You can dial 911 but thats only good for getting free cop cars, ambulances and firetrucks. If R* wanted cheats in the game, then why didn't they stick with the tried and true button combo method?
-Buses
There are roughly 2 or 3 buses at anytime on the 2nd island. There are bus stops all over the game. And yet, not one of the ingame NPC's use the damn things. So if they arn't going to be used, whats the point of having them? Only thing I found buses to be good for is recreating the jump scene from 'Speed' on the half constructed bridge in between whichever islands it is (can't remember right now). Even after the first time recreating the scene, its boring and pointless.
-Money
I have a fortune of $810,000 in the game. Aside from cabs, food, clothes, hookers, weapons, toll, car washes, and spray shops there is virtually nothing to spend cash on.
-Car Wash
The car you are driving gets cleaned when you vist the spray shops so what is the point in a car wash anyway?
-Street Racing
Every street race is easy to win with a run of the mill, ordinary car. Sports cars are not needed. And even when racing, I have found that the NPC drivers are idiots. Everytime I race them, they all end up crashing, leaving me to race on my own, which is pretty sad and pathetic when you think about it. NPC's need to learn to drive in this game. Then maybe the races will actually be WORTH DOING.
I know R*went for realism in GTA 4, but there is such a thing as 'too much realsim'. Games are meant to be fun. Not simulators of real life. I hope some things are drastically changed when the DLC starts circulating.
If you have seen other stuff which you think is pointless in GTA 4, post it here.

Never tried calling any of those numbers personally.

I can see the reason why they have them even if they didn't complete a feature they have had in other games.

no THE most pointless thing in the ENTIRE game just HAS to be those little ATM machines that you can view and it will tell you how much money you have, even though its always on the corner of your screen!! they drive me insane!!

Some people find added realism and "simulators" to be a lot of fun. I for one always wanted more realism (Especially to traffic violations and police behavior) added to the GTA games.
Granted I haven't played GTA4, but I think those additions weren't intended as major features, just some fun Easter eggs and a little added depth. Having both a car wash and Pay 'N Spray added some variety.
I do agree with the money issue, though. There needs to be more sinkholes in the game. In San Andreas, for example, property taxes might be a good way of deciding whether or not buying that remote farm is really necessary.
you can't use them. You can look and see how much money you have. Yes that same amount that is in your right top corner of the screen, but if cause a traffic jam right in from of one and wait a while. A man will go to it to get some cash. you kill him and get his money.
