Cannot load checkpoints

GoW seems to be unable to actually save checkpoints, so I wind up starting over from the very beginning of the game each time I start the program. Is there something special I need to do to make sure those checkpoints are kept when the program is shut off?

This game saves checkpoints, but for some unknown reason it also tends to delete them on it's own. I've looked around and found something that might be helpfull. This is copy/paste from another site:

1. Go to this folder (not your saved games folder): C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\WarGame\Checkpoints
2. Now, back up your chapter0 and chapterX (X stands for the chapter you're currently on; 16, for example)
3. Only after backing up chapter0 delete it
4. Now, rename chapterX to chapter0
5. When you start new game don't start new campaign/continue checkpoint. Select the 1st checkpoint manually and start. This should put you directly into ActX
6. Your previous acts will not be unlocked, but you can start from where you left off

This technique uses the simple logic that chapter0 is always open so renaming chapterX to chapter0 makes it always open, however as chapter0

I don't have this game, so I can't test this for myself. Also, you may wanna get this patch, if you still didn't:
