No, I was testing somthing, and I needed it to be passworded (see rilfle sniper post, re:antilag issues) Beta2 is basically ready, but I'm trying to identify why some of us are sometimes getting Wolf.exe crashes after warmup.. not found it yet, and infact it only happens when certain players are playing.. mmmm scratches head.. I'll give it a little while longer, and just release it I guess. Also I've been working on a stats program, based on wolfstat.. tis done, now I need to look at the scoring in WW, as someone pointed out to me, its really a bit wacko.. too many points for TNTing somthing, and too little for frags.. also I wana make end-game screen with some stats on (bit like ET ;)) Hewster |
If you have a known list of players from one of those games, you should have them all send you their wolfconfig_mp.cfg files and paste the contents into Excel so you can sort it alphabeticaly and with a column for each player. I bet that there is some setting common only to those players who are being kicked. And won't be in those who remain in the game. Excel is actually a great debugging tool... It's the one MicroSoft office product that I use because I prefer it to the competition. (the rest I use because of corporate inertia) |
One thing i've noticed and no one has picked up on is the volley rifle sound. When you reload the sound stops before you've finished reloading! |
aye theres a good reason for that A-E.. its currently using the mp40 re-load sound :/.. same as the colts, its just the original colt re-load sound. Doing SFX, is always last on my to-do list and there are sooooooooo many to do, you don't realise until you start changing them !! but I promise I'll try and get them all done for the final version. I found a bug in the governer-map when i was banditdoctor in the initial startarea. I run with normal speed and look straight up in the air and throw a molotov. Normally the molotov will fall down just behind you with normal flames and without hurting you but of course it will hurts someone behind you hehehe. But at the sandroad (not in the desert) the molotov not gives normal flames and perhaps no damage neither to a player behind you. I also tested it in canyon but no problems here. Wild West dk |
@mikkelmikkel May perhaps be a bug but makes WW more ralistic: If the bottle doesn't break in the sand no flames will burn anybody 8) |
Well i suppose that the road is made of stone and sand and afterall must be more hard that the surrounding desert. Soo it will be more naturally if it flames on the road. It is a bug because the flames depends on how you throw the molotov :) Wild West dk |
HI, don`t know if this is by design or not ?!? Hacienda Map, Gouvenors Room. I wanted to kill the gouvenor as a miner with a dynamite pack. So I throw a dynamite pack at the gouvenor.... than a wanted to arm the dynamite.. buuuut as the dynamite pack hit`s the gouvenor he dies immediatly... so, no shooting, or "grenading", "knifing", "molotoving" or something else, just throwing a unarmed dynamite pack.... And ideas ? DSBpOOh |
Yes, he's allergic to dynamite. :) Luckily, I doubt this will come up in the course of actual matches. |
I think we've all tried that. I ran behind him to see if he would push me out the window. No go. He just poltergeists through you. Dynamite works if you put it beside him. Then you just let the person plow through you and they have to sit there for 10-20 seconds jumping around and they can't save the gov's life. I had this done to me. Kind of annoying! I've got one. Allow the dynamite stash explode if you use a molotov on it. Then one on one in Hacienda actually has a chance as you might be able to get through and the cowboys can't simply throw molotovs on it themselves. Doesn't that make sense? Same for the stash in the Canyon map. Either that or just make cracks in the wall. It would make more sense that way. |
Oooooooooo oooo! You know, anyone should be able to drop their weapon and grab the dynamite and run! Too make this be not such an easy thing to do your own health level could affect how you carry the dynamite and make it explode early cause you can't carry it carefully. You'd need to walk when carrying it too as the wind makes the wick burn faster. you could change the delay so when walking 1 Second = 2 seconds, running 1 seconds = 3 seconds, sprinting 1 seconds = 6 second. Add another 1 second multiple for each 20pts of damage you are suffering... If you could get it balanced right it might be pretty fair... I don't know if that's possible or how far you would have to move it for it to still be effective. Maybe it would have to be made more powerful. Who ever heard of 6 sticks of dynamite not breaking a few nearby windows anyway.... |
lmao... uh.. ok.. I could just see it... Yeehaw.. I have the dynamite... Dont breath... HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.... oh ,oh.... Boom there goes the whole team....hehe :p :p   :moon: |
Lol:lol::lol::lol: |
Can't ya just see it! <Miner runs toward grate after dynamite planted alert> "WolfPlayer's got the dynamite again! RUN!!!!!!!" AAAAAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!! Wouldn't it be great!:agreed: OK, maybe it wouldn't work but it is different! |
Cool idea, but you'd only have to kick it a few feet to prevent it from destroying the objective. Too easy for defenders in the long run. How about just suicide by smothering it with your body (like I'm smothering this idea :D )? That might be easier to do. But still, I would place it low on Hewster's to do list. Which BTW Hewster, how far have you gotten on that? :frog: just kidding m8 |
BTW Gringo Congrats on your Promotion to Crewman Recruit! Too bad they stopped the ranking system by the time I stopped reading and started posting.:(: |
window bug Hi all ;-) try this one: stand close to an unbroken window and shoot someone on the other side... it will be a hit but the window wont break  |
That's because I believe glass has a "shoot through scale". Some of the bullets pass through. Can you break the window from inside and outside? If so, it's definitely that feature causing it. |
But shoot it with the musket at a distance and it will shatter! I wish that the railings on the balcony across from the stables in town were not pass through. That would be a good place to sniper from and it take a little skill to jump up there. unfortunately those railings provide no cover. They should. |
glass is shoot through :) however if the mapper has set the glass health to >20 then it won't break, but the bullet will pass through, and the glass will sustain damage.. once the glass is at 0 health it will break, this is why a focused musket will break glass with 1 shot, because it causes enough damage with 1 shot to break it... so you could say its a map bug / feature, rather than a code bug :) Hewster |
Picking up TNT.. Yes it could be done, although I think it may be a little to easy to stop the objectives being done (as Gringo suggested)... Something to think about though :) |
Molotovs not exploding properly on Hacienda map.... I'll look into this, thanx Wild West dk EDIT: fixed.. weird problem, it seems the hight the molotov was thrown, when looking staight up (standing) meant that its velocity on impact was at the exact speed, so it would not be calculated properly !!!, if one crouched and threw or jumped and threw, it would be ok.. to fix, I simply added a few extract units/second velocity, and now it works ok.. like i said odd problem, but now seems to be fixed :) |
come on hewster please soon release the great game you made!. I played the new release and i found no error's! soooo let's get the new release 1.4! and thanks for the great job you done! The accurarity is good as in the first betaversion.... Wild West dk |
lol queeg, I give ya points for creativity I think it would kind of unballance the game a bit though. I do like the fact that you must 'drop your weapon' first. lol |
@ WildWest.. It may seem as though its ready, but I have a lot still do-to I may release a Public 1.4 beta though, but I would rather wait till everything is finished & polished. Hewster |
porting to Enemy Territory Hewster, please dont blame me for this. You wrote you have still much to do with beta2. But one simply has to think about this - I think. As all of you know activision/idsoft released EnemyTerritory short time ago. It has been released for Win/Lin and is available for free download. It is still gaining popularity. Last weekend a mapeditor had been released and first new maps for ET can be loaded down. Would it be possible to make WW available for ET and thus increase the number of players dramatically (At least this would be an opportunity to do so)?? |
Hi Xebeque, Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.. excuse me, I'm not having a go at you, its just I'm getting bored of answering this one :( see this post for the reason why WildWest ET is not gona be possible. http://www.gamingforums.com/showthre...threadid=77600 Very Very Very good idea though, but its simply out of my hands :( Hewster |
I am sorry Hewster, didn't read that before. It is a pity. So it's on us to make the best oft that and tell everybody outthere that an new release of WW is out - when it is finished. |
I played the Betaversion of ET and as you also can see in lots of the posting in the wolfenstein newsgroup it is a fact, that ET-Betaversion is jerky. I don't know whether the final version of ET is jerky but if it is, then i don't understand people switch to it when they used to play wolfenstein or WW :) which has a much better smooth nonjerky graphic. WW dk |
Maybe this is very much off topic but I have to answer to this. I played ET final on my linux box for many hours and cannot complain any error in the game. It works perfectly. The same goes for the windoze version - a friend of mine plays ET on an AMD TB 1,2 Ghz and with some kind of old fashioned ATI 16 MB grafics. It runs very smoothly. The most important reasons for many people to switch from any game to ET maybe: It is new and you don't have to pay a buck for it. You may copy it, hand it to a friend and thus increase the number of players - which makes ET a success in the community (though many players stay with RtCW). |
That's what I see as a much more pertinant and much more important question. Can a fully installable version of WildWest be made? If we want WildWest to REALLY take off it needs to divorce itself from something considered to be honest Old Hat. The big draw about ET in my mind is it does not rely on a retail package that has fallen off the end of many retail store's software line ups. However that is a Very Big Order for Hewster to fill. |
Hi. Can someone tell me, why i get a full gray screen (and no more) when i try to run WW after installing the latest patch1 to XP prof?. Normal wolfenstein works fine. WW dk |

I'm making sure every thing is perfect (ish) Quote:
Have I not seen you playing the beta ? I need more info to help you, what files did you install prior to this problem? Hewster |
Well i have now tried to install XP-servicepack_1 1 time with the current version 1.12/1.14 (3 weeks ago) and 1 time with the version before (long time ago). Both times i had to reinstall XP . As you know I do play the beta  but i have not tried to install the servicepack_1 with the 1.4beta_1. I will try this now. Lets see what happend :uhoh: :uhoh: :uhoh:. WW dk |
I just installed XP servicepack 1 (express) and the problem is as i described in the previous post. But the lightgray full-screen appears in both wolfenstein and ww when i try to run it . I can hear "fragments" of the wolfenstein and ww intromusic when the lightgray screen appear but no more happens. I installed DirectX_9.0a and it didn't help . No errors in the startup of Wolfenstein/ww. What is wrong with that damm servicepack-update ? ww dk |
Odd prblem WW, I don't use XP, but it might be the in-built firewall ? Have you tried uninstalling RtCW & WW then re-installing ? Maybe you need to update your graphix drivers ? Hewster |
You mean you don't all get that????? I thought it was just part of WildWest! Of course I've only ever played WW with the service pack installed. I've always gotten it. I've had a hunch that it is doing some sort of search for a master server. If you carefully watch your network traffic easy to do on my router. Pure guess work makes me think it is looking for a direct connect (it pauses but there's no network traffic for the first pause) then it looks for a local server as there is a broadcast message to the local area network (Traffic shows on my other router ports) and then it looks for an Internet server a connection to the internet (Traffic on the internet port of my router). But as I said that's just a guess based upon blinking lights. I've just learned to deal with it. During the 5 days I was without an Internet connection (BTW the problem was exactly what I said it was - the repair crew down the street had spliced a new cable incorrectly. It just took a TimeWarner 5 minutes in my house after a 5 day delay for them to realize it and call the repair crew. They fixed it down the street 3 hours later... (grumble grumble grumble)) Anyway, during the 5 days I was without Internet (grumble) that gray screen was all I got. So, Hewster I expect that if you can get the same behavior if you disconnect you broadband or set you system to look for a non-existant proxy server. |
jubii, now it work after installation of new drivers. I also do it last time without succes but now it works. thanks ww dk |
WWDK: See My screen stays gray for maybe 5-10 seconds and then clears and goes to the menu. I don't hear any sound during that time. Do you still get that? Hewster: I like the hissing when you hold a fuse bomb especialy how it changes tone at the final hiss. It's odd that it starts before you actually light the bomb though... In WW you cannot change the delay on dynamite bundles correct? If you hold the button while dropping the dynamite bundles, it it still clicks, can you eliminate that sound since it is not doing anything? Can you make it so you can cut the fuse on the dynamite sticks? It doesn't make sense that the fuse bombs can be held but fused sticks cannot. |
yep but my screen only stay gray for 3 seconds (something to do with the cpu you have). ww dk |
I tried it in regular RtCW and the gray/clSilver screen is in that version too. Like I said, it is 5-10 seconds depending on how fast I count <grin>. Probably closer to ten. Deleting PK3s doesn't seem to affect it. It could be CPU related I guess. If you send be a faster CPU and I'll gladly try it out!:frog: |
I have a free 450 Mhz! It must be much better than the current you have. :D ww dk |
HA! HA! HA! And your mother uses a Macintosh! :moon: |
What I've noticed is that the lid of the ammo box is clear from the underside. Almost like it's textured with caulk. Minor detail. Never noticed till I've started jonesing that Volley Gun!!! |
My DSL modem is trashed so I probably won't be on the servers for awhile.:((I am typing this at a computer at work right now) |
Well, don't open it up to squeeze 4 more kbps out of it  |
Curious, just had some of my members asking me about new weapons in the new mod, and they are curious if there will be 'throwable' knives? Any ideas on that Hewster? |
WildWest feedback Hewster, Two things. First, I fixed this a while ago on my system but it finally just occured to me to post it here. With an Exe named WildWest and a directory underneath it named WildWest, you cannot create a windows shortcut to that directory. If you put this in the target (with quotes): "C:\Program Files\Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Game of The Year Edition\WildWest\" You still get a shortcut to WildWest.exe. Could you rename WildWest.EXE to The-WildWest.exe? Second, and I'm not sure about the need for this one, would it be advantagous to put a ww_ prefix in front of all of the PK3s? Then there wouldn't ever be confusion about one PAK0.PK3 versus another... |
no throwable knives Dragon.... maybe in the future.. I believe the idea of throwable knives is better than the reality ? ie wouldn't actually be very practicale weapon in-game. Queeg ? my shortcut to my WildWest folder works ok ??? "C:\games\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\WildWest" I don't understand you problem with that ? are you saying that when you create a shortcut to your wildwest folder, that it runs the wildwest.exe ? what OS are you using ? what confusion is there with the pak3's ? I've always followed the convention of using mp_pak, as I know the wolfmp.exe looks for files with names that start with this (thats why the sp files arn't loaded when you run multiplayer) When 1.4 is released I plan to have all files in 1 or 2 pk3's, as this will temporarily solve the pk3 limit bug in the wolf.exe too. Hewster |
I'm using XP Pro. When I do a New Short cut on the desktop and put in "C:\Program Files\Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Game of The Year Edition\WildWest\" It changes it to "C:\Program Files\Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Game of The Year Edition\WildWest.exe" Even if I edit the link back to the right text, it changes it back. WildWest.exe is in "C:\Program Files\Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Game of The Year Edition". I'm trying to get in to the WildWest directory underneath that. If I do start run and: C:\Program Files\Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Game of The Year Edition\WildWest It runs WildWest.exe C:\Program Files\Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Game of The Year Edition\WildWest\ It runs WildWest.exe "C:\Program Files\Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Game of The Year Edition\WildWest" It runs WildWest.exe "C:\Program Files\Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Game of The Year Edition\WildWest\" It opens the directory. In the end I first renamed WildWest to WW.exe. I also created a file called Startup.Bat in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and put this in it: subst W: /d subst w: C:\Progra~1\Return~1\WildWest Now Drive W: is my WildWest directory. The confusion over the Pk3s is my own and is only because I've been exploring them. I have seen RtCW improvements that had readme files explaining "If you already have a file named PAK1.PK3 sav this file as PAK2 or 3 etc." So I thought making everything WW_*, like the edit pak ,might prevent someone replacing one of your files by mistake. I tried it and it still plays fine. There's probably no real advantage though as this would rarely be a problem... |
