I don't answer every post,
but I do try and answer all sensible comments and
suggestions.. enough said !

If someone is copying others names, it easy to find out,
as they will still have a unique QUID.
I did notice Bumsaw with a score of -42 playing
the other night (via AsE) both BoltyBoy and Myself joined
to see what was going on, and by the time we got there
the player had gone.

I am going to ask the server admins to send me their log files,
and I will find out if the person was an imposter, and I might
also be able to find out who they normally play as.

All comments & suggestions are welcome,
If you have a problem, simply saying "Its crap"
does not help anyone !
If you can explain your issue, then perhaps we can discuss it.

The ever sensible & ancient
Hewster

btw, both BoltyBoy and myself are in agreement with the majority
of comments we have recieved, in that 1.14b is an improvement and
we have no intentions of reverting back to 1.13.

majority lol

thanks for the reply, i know it was not major bumsaw doin the team killin, because i know where he was.but would like to comment on your statement about the majority saying they like the new patch, the majority of posts that i have seen,do not agree with you ,and i play every night and most people are still moanin, can i also say that the servers are vertually empty every night, and its hard to get a game, cant you get one server to play the old mod,and see how many are on it? i think ,sorry i know it will be full again, and all the others will be empty ,xcept for newbies, lol

My comments:

I agree with Huey - what are these issues with the new patch that you don't like? Give us feedback, we can't do anything people just say "it's shit".

Let's look at the major changes...

1 - Anti-cheat code - anyone got a problem with that?

2 - Improved firepower of rifle, LESS accurate colts - this now makes the balance between using a rifle or colt finer. ie rifle is distinctly improved for long distance and colt is good up close. I never used to use the rifle because it was crap compared to colt in short or long range combat. Now I have trouble deciding which weapon to use because of the different qualities - I have to decide on the circumstances of the assault as to which weapon to choose. Surely this is better than "Oh I'll take a dual colt cos it kicks ass over everything else all round" ???

3 - Knife is less powerful. So it's harder to stab or be stabbed in close combat V gun. I can't see how this is could be making everyone complain.

4 - less grenades - this prevents people lobbing grenades all over the shop which was far too frequent you have to agree. Where's the fun for people playing the game and constantly being blown up by a grenade that came from nowhere? Grenades are intended to be a weapon that you use tactically or in extreme circumstances. In my opinion this adds to the gameplay. Players are less likely to lob nades around willy nilly, so players have to use their heads and think! - "Should I use this nade now or save it for later?" This also means lieutenants are more important to gameplay if they want the team to be fully armed against the adversary. This is a team game after all!!

That pretty much covers the major issues. I can only see how these points improve gameplay. Perhaps they appeal to more tactically minded and skillful players than those that wish to just lob explosives and shoot away to their hearts content.

We always wanted this mod to be focused more on people thinking about their actions and less on arcade style gung-ho shooting. In Wildwest movies you see the bad guys having a shoot out through the windows of their hideout or from behind rocks in some canyon, you don't see them running around stupidly, lobbing grenades all over the shop - so this is what we wanted to reproduce.

The new patch I feel approaches this type of gameplay more so than any other and I for one thoroughly enjoy it more so now than ever. If this means we result in a different breed of gamer then so be it. There are plenty of gung-ho MP games out their but less where you have to think and be thoughtful of your actions.

Incidentally, the lack of players recently I would put more down to our sudden wave of patches and map updates that we pushed on to the scene along with incompatabilities issues with servers and the 1.41 Wolf code. A lot of players were kicked from servers due to no fault of our own. I kknow if I had trouble joinging a mod's server I'd say "screw this" and go play something else.

Last thing, yes the people who don't like the patch are in the minority. Just like the war in Iraq, the people against something are the ones with the loudest voices. You don't get people protesting when they agree with something!!!

maybee

ill agree with you on some of the things you said,eg nades, and more acurate rifle, but bolty this is a arcade game, gun hoe and damn well shoot em up,it is not a strategy game,,when playin real live opponents, who have no immediate communication between each outher you cannot have any planned strategy, the only team work that is involved in this type of game is luet givin amo, medics givin health, miner blowin up things, and a soldier who relies on all three, the game play in normal wolf online has not changed, because people like it the way it is,and it doesnt need changin, lke dirtydog says try a server runnin the old patch and we will see if its busy,if it isnt i will personally suck up to you both for ever lol,but being in regular contact with most of the regular players ,they agree we will fill the server, sorry if you dont like the things you hear, but you did start it lol

ps i dont like ANY of the changes you have made:mad:
I JUST WANNA PLAY THE WAY IT WAS

Henry is LESS accurate in 1.14b ? see my post in the good the bad and
the ugly post, and GET A GRIP dude.

Hewster

BoltyBoy April 3rd, 2003 12:32 PM

Yeah dude of course you are entitled to an opinion but ultimatly myself and Huey prefer it the way it is now, might I add based on all the FEEDBACK from 1.13 no less!!!

So I guess it's a situation of change some stuff and one bunch of people complain, change it back and the other bunch of people complain!

No win situation so it stays as is! We don't want to spend time going backwards when we could be focussing on more important stuff like new weapons and ...well I'll say no more ;)

grizz April 9th, 2003 05:37 PM

well i have to agree wild west seems to be well and truly dead
never seem to see anyone playing and that is a shame because this mod
had something special about it, it gave new life to wolfy
but since the 1.14 update most of the players have gone
so looks like it's back to wolf:cya: :cya: :cya: :cya:

Wild West Mod

I've been reading everyones comments on the new patch and I myself really don't like the patch, less acurate colts and the improved henry rifle, etc. I must admit I liked the game as it was but it doesnt mean to say I won't play it anymore. There's one vital thing people are forgetting to ask themselves here, what if this was a "shop bought" game/mod. Would people still post the same comments that they are posting now? You always have to look at things in a different light. If, and this is a big if, this mod became a full blown SP game backed by a software company, and someone who has never played the mod before, went out and bought it, would they post the same comments? I doubt it very much as they wouldnt have a clue as to how the mod has progressed all they would see is the finished artical. We, on the other hand would have seen the game/mod in it's infancy so what we think are changes for the worse could actually be changes for the better, especially if it gets the game/mod on the shelves. I would love to see Wild West in the shops and for Hewster and Bolty get the credit they deserve. So come on people we could be a part of gaming history here, so give the guys your support. Don't walk away from something that could be a winner. Lets hope the name on the grave isn't "Wild West". Don't kill that mod!

"If your gonna shoot, shoot don't talk!"
