Ringo: Yep! I'll post a link to the official one but it first needs to be moved to a more public area... I'll get to that later today...

Re: WildWest Public Beta Released!

Good work all - 1.6 is looking really smooth! And great to see the mine back!

Can anyone tell me why I am getting kicked by PB when trying to join the Public Beta Server. It suggest I have no valid CD key entered. From what I remember of previous versions it only worked if the CD key was left blank. However on 1.6 beta I cant find the option to input CD key. Any ideas?

Otherwise fantastic - 3 of us checked out the maps on the LAN here and all are impressed with the improvements!

Thanks!

oops ezposse, you need the cd key for your RtCW (it sounds like you may have either moved it or deleted it) If so then you may need to re-install your RtCW.

Also to note folks, you will need the comercial version of RtCW, this will not work with the demo versions of RtCW.

Hi Dragon,

Thanks for the thought! Sounds like its linked to the way I have installed 1.6. Basically I have attempted to keep a working 1.5 but this is probably the issue.

I'm away now for a couple of weeks but will have another look when I'm back and look forward to some full on battle action down the mine!

Thanks

Ezposse

This is wrong! You dont need a commercial version. You need only wolfmp.exe (which you can get for free from the wolfenstein updates), the PB files from evenbalance.com and the WildWest mod.
There are also servers where you dont need a CD key.
If somebody needs some help with installing - just PM me - its not illegal! All your friends are able to play WW eventhough they didnt bought RTCW!

Re: WildWest Public Beta Released!

ah here's what ya need to do if you want to have both the beta 1.6 and 1.5

(my bad I have mentioned it to my testers but forgot to mention it here)
  1. rename you're 1.5 version of wildwest directory from wildwest to wildwest1_5. If you've already removed it you can redownload it, go to step #7,1. Then reinstall 1.5.
  2. download and save the install program (I've a folder in my RtCW folder named downloads for all my downloads, just easier to find that way)
  3. Install wildwest 1.6beta. Note, if you have older version of wildwest (even if you've renamed the folder it will see the wildwest executable in RtCW directory. don't worry about it. Also to note if you're running a version of windows that does not have WINDOWS as it's root main directory you may need to download and follow the instructions for the linux/mac zip file
  4. Let it overwrite the files it finds
  5. now you should have 2 folders of wildwest in your RtCW directory:
    • wildwest
    • wildwest1_5
  6. to run the 1.6 beta just hit your wildwest launch button
  7. to run the wildwest 1.5 version:
    1. rename wildwest to wildwest1_6
    2. rename wildwest1_5 to wildwest
    3. hit wildwest launch button
  8. to go back to the beta version just rename in oposite direction:
    1. rename wildwest to wildwest1_5
    2. rename wildwest1_6 to wildwest
    3. hit wildwest launch button
You should note that the version of wildwest you will be running will always be labled wildwest and the version you are not running will have a 1_5 or 1_6 after it.

There are a few minor glitches that we are working on but this is basically the final version of 1.6 (we are aware of the various glitches). Queeg is currently working on moving the list of new features from the design team area to a more public forum and when he does so, he or I will link to it here.

In general there are new maps, a return of an old favorite. and a new game mode, team death match. as well as other nifty touches and improved performance.

Re: WildWest Public Beta Released!

A couple of thing I have noticed:

Can walk through the shelf without books that is in the Govenor's office on Hacienda, as well as the rock behind the Cowboy's when they spawn (known about that one for awhile).

Oh, and I found a weird bug on Mine map where my grenades went missing when I through them at the ceiling.

@ Swisser: Greetings! :)

Re: WildWest Public Beta Released!

Just some adds to Dragons last post:
- call the folder WildWest instead of wildwest to avoid trouble with case sensitivity
- actually I run both versions from within one folder and it seems to work fine
- instead of renaming the folders you could solve this by using soft links - its IMO easier and less confusing.

Some suggestions for developers:
- I think it could be good idea to rename the mod folder to WildWest-$version - so its easier to use different versions at the same time. Also ASE would be able to start the different versions correctly.

- I wondered why ww_pak1613.pk3 is about 416MB big! IMO its not zipped correctly:
$ file ww_pak1613.pk3
ww_pak1613.pk3: Zip archive data, at least v1.0 to extract

but "file" shows for all other original RTCW pk3:
Zip archive data, at least v2.0 to extract

If you zip it correctly then it safes about 200MB HD space and maybe maploading will be faster -dunno.

It slows down map loading a lot since it needs to decompress the textures; seek time is much slower as well so just looking through the zip file for each file eats time. I believe they only used the "store" compression level because of this.

lol snake, both those have been around since the original. Seeing as they don't affect game play we let them slide. I'm curious where you found the 'hole' in the ceiling. i'm thinking you're tossing the nade too close to the sky box and that will eat them.
