connection problem

Like 90% of the times I connect to a WW server the first time i connect it says: PB kicked you (for 0 minutes): PB INIT FAILURE, and when i reconnect it just works, but my loading time takes a while, because i don't have a very fast computer and it's frustrating me when I just joined a team to get kicked out of the server and need to reconnect again. Can anyone help me?

Is your PB updated to the latest version?

Re: connection oroblem

It updates automatically and in normal wolf it works fine, no probs there so that can't be the problem I guess

Re: connection oroblem

This particular problem is a "mystery" and nobody really seems to know why it happens, but I have seen it happen in other mods, so I know it is not unique to WildWest. I have gone to www.punkbuster.com and looked for answers, but found nothing really helpful. Some people get it often, others never get it, and I am not sure why that is.

How new a computer are you running, is it an older machine? How fast, how much RAM?

Re: connection oroblem

I have done some extensive searching about this particular problem. Several suggestions have been made, but there are still some people who have this issue.

The most common "reason" that I have found is that PB is not updating properly, and the server and your computer may be running different versions of PunkBuster. Even though it should update automatically, I keep hearing that this is not reliable.

In you PB folder you should have a file called PBWEB.EXE. If you double click on it, a DOS window will open up and you will be connect to the PB site and it will begin downloading the latest files and installing them. The current version of PB should be A1335 C1.069.

If you join a server, type /PB_SV_ENABLE into the console and it should display the PB version. Apparently, the servers are usually the ones that have the older version on them, mostly due to the problem with auto update not working correctly.
I have also seen people mention the problem with LinkSys routers, as mentioned in the other post.

Even if you have done all the possible fixes, it still may not work, and people have not gotten satisfactory answers from Punkbuster.

Maybe this will help.

Re: connection oroblem

Well I forgot to tell you this: once when i was in lone wolf it said to me I had an older version of PB then the server and it kicked me when i reconnected it gave me the error again but after a few minutes it was gone so maybe my update wont work and i'll try to do the PBWEB .exe thing, thanks for your help. oh yeah my ram is 256 and my system is getting older it still runs fine but it is not new. I have 866 mhz pentium 3, RTCW runs fine even NFSU still works but I can't run the latest games anymore, I want a new computer :(:P

Edit:
WTF???? I don't have a pbweb.exeon my computer i searched in the maps but found nothing then i searched for pbweb with windows XP but it found nothing, what now?

Yea, I was afraid that would happen....

Here, unzip this into your PB directory:

Re: connection oroblem

WHy thank you partner, is it the latest PB version? and does it update automatically after i unzipped it?

Ignacio May 30th, 2004 10:50 AM

Re: connection oroblem

Those files are current as of about an hour ago. If you need to update it later on, you can just double click on the PBWEB.EXE file and it will do it manually.

PB is "supposed" to update automatically, but sometimes it doesn't for some reason

hey johnson, once you get this whole punkbuster issue resolved, i bet if you put at least another 256 megs of ram in your machine, you'll notice a huge difference! these games are ram hogs!
