The Mother of All Weapons Class Threads

Howdy all! Despite the name I quit DWG and joined OPTIC but thats beside the point. In this thread I will compare the technical aspects of the weapons in the game and perhaps help you decide on what to use in the real game...

7.62 mm Class Rifles
The M-16A2 American Rifle is your comman assault weapon. It fires a highly accurate round that can kill in 2 or 3 well aimed single shots and has a 3 round burst feature implented in Vietnam to conserve ammution and which is more accurate than sustained fire. The AK-47 Assault Rifle was initially designed at the end of World War II for CQC targets under 50 meters that packed more punch than than Machine Pistols (or MP) and STGs of the Germans.
Personally, I tend to stick with the M16 except on Pipeline or MOUT where the person who ends up alive is the one with the quickest trigger finger.

5.56 mm Class Rifles
The M-4 Rifle used in Insurgent Camp is almost the same as the M-16A2 except that it is much more compact and has a bit more kick-back due to its shorter barrel. Only use for medium range targets. The AKS-47U in this game is usually considered better because you can pull out 6 rounds in half the time of your M-4 opponent.

Lauched Grenades
Both weapon attachments (the M-203 and GP-30) work well except neither one is perfect. If you pick up the opponent's GP-30 the rocket loads quicker than the M-203 and your opponents wont see the exhaust coming from it. However, after one magizine in one of the bullet modes, all of your magazines will have 3 bullets! Bug Anyone?
I'd say pick off with the GP-30 but use an Assault Rifle to attack.

Snipers
If you have a choice, stick to the M-24, it has a better scope, a bi-pod, and 50 rounds, plus, the enemies see it as a Mosin so it also has a bit of natural camo, a sniper hidden in a bush in mountain pass with this rifle won't be spotted unless you see a muzzle flash ( or he's a bad hider ). If you come across a Mosin-Nagant rifle, pick it up, but you'll only have 10 rounds.
With the M-82 and SVD, there is no choice, picking up an enemy SVD will mean, one miss and your position is blown.

I hope this guide helps you become a better soldier on the virtual battlefield, HOOAH!

Default CHIP YOU ARE A MORON

First of all i like how you tried to sound like you know what your talking about when you dont have a clue. First of all the m4 m16 and m249 all have the same caliber round. The 5.56 NATO round because its lighter and just as effective and with new technology it packs the same punch even though its smaller. And did you also know that the m4 is modified m16 with a new stock and barrel, so it they are the same guns then how could they fire differnt cal. carteridge. Oh and if you were wondering about the xtra slot on the m249 its for an m16/m4 clip incase a m249 gunner runs out of ammo he can slap a clip in there. And another thing you retard the m24 only holds 5 shots not 50 and if you cant hit your target after 5 shots you suck and shouldn't have ever qualified as a sharpshooter. WELL THATS TECH DAY HOPE YOU DONT **** UP AGAIN, so long. No hard feelings pal just correctin ya, and if my spelling is wrong on anything thats because its midnight and im typing with my eyes partialy open.

Another quick ammendment to the first post, none of the Kalashnikov rifles seen in AA:O use the 5.56mm NATO round. The newest additions to the AK family, the AK-101, AK-102, and AK-108 use the .223 rem cartrage, but none of these are present in the game. The AK-47/AKM does use the 7.62mm round, but the RPK-74 and the AKS-74 use the Russian infantry standard 5.45mm round. The GP-30 is mounted on an AK-107 as well, meaning the primary weapon in that configuration is a 5.45mm rifle rather than a 7.62 as is suggested. The AK-47 (Avtomat Kalashnikova - 1947) was designed in by Mr. Kalashnikov in 1947, as the name might suggest. This occured while Mr. Kalashnikov was recovering from a leg wound sustaned when his tank was hit. Production and integration of the weapon did not take place untill late in 1948. For those of you who know anything at all, 1948 was, last time I checked, 3 years after VE day in Europe, meaning that the AK-47 was not developed at the end of the war, rather some time after the end of the war. As the SturmGevehr-44, (StG-44, also MP-44, the same gun) was a German standard rifle, it used the German standard rifle cartrage. That of course was not a 5.45mm, nor was it a 7.62mm. It was the much more dangerous 7.92mm round, meaning that an original AK-47 was comperable, if not lacking, in power to the StG-44/MP-44. While the MP-40 and today's MP-5 do derive their names from the German "MachinenPistole," the MP-44/StG-44 was not a machine pistol at all, it was simply given this name early on because of Hitler's insistance that only SMG's be produced at that point in the war. The MP-38 and MP-40 were nowhere near the same class of weapon as the StG or AK, and thus the power of their 9mm Parabellum round was not even a concideration in the development of the AK-47. As for the GP-30... magazine? What magazine? Since when did the dev's include an Arc-lite in AA?

Nice try, Chipwich. I look forward to future editions...

Saw King: What do you mean by "no hard feelings"? You called the guy a "moron" and said that he didn't "have a clue".

A few corrections of my own:

1. It's a magazine, not a "clip".

2. The M-249 fires a 5.56mm, not because of "new technology", but because of NATO 5.56mm Second Caliber Standardization Agreement (STANAG 4172) which ensures commonality of ammunition. Because the older M-60s are beginning to become unservicable, the DoD recently contracted to develop a 7.62mm version of the M-249 which has the same rate of fire as the 5.56mm version.

Anyone else wanna be schooled?
