had that error. Myself. It ended up being the
agpminiport driver that the motherboard manufacturer supplied. Only solution I found was reinstall windows with out the driver ( use windows default ) I tested by installing windows 4 different times 2 with driver two without each time I got the error was with agpminiport driver from vendor. (plus locks where frequent )
hope it helps it has others ive told
on this board

Thanks for the tip http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif But, to be honest, I'd rather not have to install the whole of windows just to get it to work...is there any other way I can reset to the default windows agpminiport driver without installing the whole of windows 98?

The agpminiport driver I'm using at the moment is one I've downloaded from the net, that supposedly was supposed to help any possible conflicts between geforce cards and the athlon. I've enclosed the text file that came with the driver I'm using at the mo if it helps.

But, as I said, if anyone knows a way to reinstall that default windows agpminiport driver, or knows where I could download one from the net that'd work with sacrifice, I'd be incredibly greatful. Thanks again.

Well ill check ...Good news though you have the same chip set That I have and it is the agminport driver. So your crashes etc are caused by the agpminiport driver .

At first glance I would say no since theres no unisntall etc.. The file itself is a vxd file. These are a pain to remove cleanly. The only thing I can suggest is to try uninstalling. all hardware from the device manager. Then Dont reboot when asked and reinstall windows overtop of itself. But this is really not a great Idea since it usually causes more trouble then its worth.

When I had the problem my only fix was reinstalling windows from scratch to completely remove the driver.

And here I was thinking my driver problems would be over when I upgraded from a voodoo 2..*lol*

I'd be really greatful if you could think of any way to change back to the default driver without reinstalling windows, cos a. it's a lot of hassle for just one game, and b. at the moment, I can't for the life of me think where my damn windows CD is...*l*

But thanks for all your help, at least now I know what the problem is (and I know to curse the god of AGP miniport drivers everytime the game dumps me to desktop) http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif Wonder why it's just this game though, or if more hardware demanding games in the future will crash too....guess I'll just keep searching online for more drivers in case one works...

Ah well. Thanks again Rastain http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif
