Default Servers

I've got a mailserver sitting here on my 768k SDSL, would be more than happy to run a server. But my question is, are there any plans for a linux port? I have several boxes on OC3+ connections, all running linux. These would offer excellent pings to everyone, and the machines are beefy dual 1ghz and 1.2ghz boxes.

From my understanding, one of the main reasons for choosing the Lithtech Talon engine is the linux server possibility, and will probably be forthcoming after, or during late beta from what Hap has said.

Also, will the dedicated server be launched from within the UI, or will there be a command line/dos box version? I ask cause I'm not sure about others, but I don't waste money putting nice graphics cards in my servers.

Yes, we are working on a Linux server version.

I'm talking about a win32 version, just being able to launch it from a dos window rather than loading the game and launching from within there.

Are you trying to run it from DOS?
Or what?

I will want to run it from a dos window on my desktop within Win2k or WinXP. I would hate to waste the money to put a good video card into my server, just so I can go through the game to start a dedicated server. Something like other games offer, there's a dedicated server executable that you can use to start a dedicated server, but without the need to load the game (and the necessity to meet video requirements) to do so.

*edit*
For example, when you install HalfLife you get two primary executables, HL.exe and HLDS.exe. HL.exe starts the game, the graphics engine, etc. HLDS.exe has a simple command line interface, so no need to waste a good video card on a machine that does nothing but serve a game.

DLinkOZ,

It is just like any other Lithtech Dedicated server. There is a standalone EXE file which you need to run from Windows. You don't need any special video cards, although you might want *a* video card of some kind. Purge doesn't support a telepathic interface.

Not to worry, it's got one, just not capable of modern games. Never dealt with the lithtec engine before, so I had no frame of reference. Thanks for the answer, wasn't too painful

i was wondering about the possibility of servers.

Does it have to be a dedicated server?
can't i just host a game while i have the time to play?

If so does each member get a specific timeline when the server has to be online, or can you just decide to host a game whenever you want?

In the subscription i have filled in that i couldn't host a game, but if i would be able to host a game whenever i wanted to and it does not necesarrily have to be dedicated i could host games.
