Graphics and engine

The graphics look pretty amazing from the screenshots. Are those actual screens? I was also wondering if Purge is being developed with it's own engine or one from a previous game?

The screenshots on the screenshots page:
http://www.purgeonline.net/screenshots.asp

Are all 100% real. The class pictures from the front page and weapon pictures in the interviews I did are obviously renders. They have to be; we just want that particular image or pose. You can tell we had pose all those player models together to make the "group photos".

However, every render (weapon/player) are from the ACTUAL model we will use in game. In otherwords: that IS the actual skin quality and low poly model. So, provided you have good enough machine, the models will look almost exactly the same in game. Compare the render of the Android or Mage player model and the screenshot of her and you see what I mean.

We are using Lithtech Talon. I know you what guys are thinking... don't say it. Listen, Lithtech is just an engine, the artwork quality depends more on the mad sk1llz of the artist that just what engine we chose. We can make human hands, even if some other game (which will remain nameless) cannot.

[Edited for typo. Anyone surprised?]

I have actually liked some games that used the lithtech engine. Aliens vs Predator 2 was a great game. I have heard that it is pretty flexible and can do some interesting things.

I've heard horrid things about AvP2's netcode, I've only played lan with it so we didn't notice much. Although, I must say, AvP2 has one of the best single player experiences of any game since Half-Life.(anyone else noticed a dry spell in good games recently?) And I think this shows how well the lithtec engine can perform given good artists/coders. (we'll ignore the INSANE load times and focus on gameplay/looks here =) I dont think the engine is going to be that big of a limiting factor honestly, I mean, people are still playing quake1 and halflife anyways, proving that visuals aren't everything (although they are helpful, and I have a feeling this wont be lacking in that department, guess we'll see =).

Speaking screenies, the mage's staff just looks awsome, a rather nice and unique design.

AvP2 is an amazing game. I for one have never had any problems with the mp game.

yea the screenies so far look very avp2-ish, which is a good thing tho
and the avp2 netcode is very bad, but it has no bearing on the lithtech engine really (from my knowledge) but i hear bad things of the netcode for global ops too (another lithtech engine) which makes me wonder.

side note:dry spell in good games? i dont think so anyway, true there was a bit of one after H-L was released, but now there are alot of amazing games (MoH:AA, RTCW,Op Flashpoint, GR...i know, all fps, but thats my area mostly) and the games being released this year set to improve on that trend (UT2, Unreal2,SoF2,Dark forces2...etc) no better time than now to be a serious gamer imo

See if help answer any of your netcode questions.

The screens so far look very impressive, & as long sa the netcode is solid then we should be in for some good fragging http://www.voodooextreme.com:81/cool.gif

No idea. We will probably have see how other Lithtech games h4x0r the graphics settings to run a 3dfx card, and we will do the same. (It isn't like I can ask 3dfx for tech support.)

Anyways, when the beta rolls around, someone will have drop by the forums of like AvP2 or Global Ops and see what they did for 3dfx cards.
