Problems with CD-RW after patch...

Hi ya all,

Anybody else having problems with fast burners after applying the 1.01 patch? I can't burn anymore at 16x with my Plextor. Worked fine a couple of days ago but yesterday I applied the patch (needed to show a friend how it's done 'cos he's new to computers) and now 16x burn won't work. 12x and slower works ok. MP, MaxFX-tools and the patch are the only things installed this week on to my machine.

Is it the patch or just a freak coincidence? What does the patch do to help the copyprotection compatibility? I'm gonna try a fresh OS install tonight just incase...

My HP 9900ci 12x Burner had 54 bufferunderuns after installing the patch!!! Something in the patch screwed up my CDRW.

Hmmm so it actually could be the patch. Since the plextor has the burnproof thingy the error is not reported as bufferunderrun but Nero Burning ROM reports it as "Power calibration error" then there's some other error after that... but I still think it's weird that it works @ 12x speed and slower...

My CDRW also has a burnproof eqivalent and the CD's work but it is extremely slow since it is constantly experiencing bufferunderuns and Nero now says I always get 50+ bufferunderuns recording a CD. I never got this error before the patch. Anyone Else? Thoughts? I am running Windows XP Build 2520, 1.3 ghz AMD, 512 DDR, 70GB, 12x 9900ci, Pioneer 16x DVD, Voodoo 5

Guess I should post my specs too:
TB 1.4GHz, MSI K7TT-R, 256MBcas2, WinME, Plextor 16/10/40A, Creative 8x DVD, LeadTek GeForce3, 20+40+1,7GB harddrives.

I should also mention that I tried uninstalling MP and MaxFX tools and that didn't help. http://www.veforums.com/frown.gif

Thought I'd give this a little bump... just in case...

Bump!

This makes little sense, how could a patch get into the driver files for the cdrw and mess it up??? Are the burners on a ata66 or ata100 port, are you using highpoint drivers to enable the ata66 or 100? If so, have you tried to put the burner on the ata33???

Another thing, my plextor usually burns at 8. But with certain cdrs it wont burn audio on 8, has to be 4. Try maxwell cdrs.... see what happens

actually, burners CANT run at ata 66/100, they must run at 33.

Just did a clean install of WinME and the problem's still there. Can't burn at 16x [lot's of sensored words] [a few broken items]. Oh well have to take this burner for a warranty change or something tomorrow... not that I need it for anything... [more sensored words].

DrMaximus I hope your problem isn't the same as mine. Good luck.

Yeah, it;s obvious you can't run a burner on ata66 :P. But some people install the burners on their available ide ports and that may be an issue. As for this burning issue... if you did a fdisk, then reformatted your drive then did a reinstall of the os and still had the issue.... it's either your burner or your ide port. The end. A game patch cannot fry a burner, that's impossible. It can corrupt the drivers, possibly. But a clean format and fdisk would restore that. Hrmm.. you weren't running the game off of the cdrw, right? You don't have the burner daisy chained do you?

Try uninstalling the cdrw, try a different ide port, reinstall the drivers. Or like I said, try a different form of media for the burn. Like I said, some cdr's are problematic, like acers..

Fixed my problem, Reinstalled the game and did not install the patch and now my CDRW works again.

Didn't quite understand this... you mean I can't install a burner to ATA66 IDE port??!
(you probably didn't mean that...)

Well I just formatted the driver didn't feel like deleting the partition and then adding it back. Usually formatting has been enough for Windows reinstall.

I was hoping for just corrupted driver and that's why I reinstalled windows... quess it wasn't drivers http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif

Yes I was actually... :I Does it really matter? What does 'daisy chained' mean? http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif

Different IDE port... hmmm have to try that. BTW. could a broken or loose cable prevent fast burns but allow slower burn?

Thanks

I have a CD burner on my system that I gave up a long time ago. http://www.veforums.com/biggrin.gif A friend asked me to test his CD burner awhile back. So, I didn't bother with it since then. He he he..

However, I did install the patch.....
