Erm, Ido, IRC is a completely different thing (which, imho, sucks anyways).

And, as SG stated, ICQ is better, and I wouldn't have anything AOL originally created on my computer, either.

PsychicToaster January 27th, 2001 06:36 PM

irc wasnt one of the choices

ICQ: 2
AIM: 0

AOL is the sad result of consumer computer-illiteracy. And illiteracy in general.

IMO icq's dumb. It is not very different from email, and the reason I don't like it is because you have to keep clicking to read new messages, and to reply. With instant messenger, you devote a window to each person you talk with for easy access. You can also choose whether to include an image in your IM or just send it(icq only has the send option), you can physically talk with one another... the entire interface is just better.

The one thing icq has that is superior to instant messenger is the chat, but it's not really THAT different.

gabeybaby January 28th, 2001 03:53 AM

ICQ AND IRC http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif irc is the best because you can support whole rooms of people and have your own little community. http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif I like it better than ICQ or AIM. I used to have an AIM account but there we're so many thing s about it i did not like...and after trying to uninstall it...i really didnt like it :P

Helbrass January 28th, 2001 08:06 AM

It sort of depends on which ones most of your friends use. I have ICQ and AIM, but I don't have either one loaded into my startup because of the memory usage.

I like MSN Messenger best, the one from Microsoft. Its the most practical, looks the best and isn't bogged down with useless features. Now if only I could get my worthy contacts to all switch to it...

Isn't this supposed to be the sacrifice forum? All those progs suck...but ICQ sucks a little less than the rest of them...

Wow, that just looked retarded. It's spelt 1337, b1z47ch.

And every feature of ICQ is very useful. http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif Gawd, I nearly commited suicide the other day when I sent a message to someone, then suddenly ICQ crashed, my whole database was corrupted, and I needed to redownload it and start again with NO contacts. http://www.veforums.com/frown.gif

First time that's ever happened to me, though, and I've been using ICQ for years. But it still sucks to lose 150-200 contacts in a second. But ICQ still r0x3r5.

Heimidal January 28th, 2001 11:44 AM

Go with MSN Messenger. It has all of the things that AIM has that are good combined with the cool things in ICQ.

Also, AOL owns ICQ. I guess some of you will not be able to have a messenger now...

AOL FUBAR'ed ICQ a bit by buying them.

There are three main advantages that make me use ICQ.

1.)It has a wide assortment of users and a large percentage of the gaming populace use it.
2.)It has a history feature that makes a transcript of everything said. You can review it at any time.
3.)It allows you to leave messages for offline users. Some may claim that this is basically the same as e-mail, but who in their right mind would check their spaminfested e-mail? http://www.veforums.com/biggrin.gif

Dentron January 28th, 2001 01:01 PM

1337?? nah 1 is i in the |_337 alphabet last time i checked...I just use |_ so its easier to tell the difference. 7|-|47 15 \/\/|-|47 3'/3 |_1|<3 2 |_|53 4 |_ hehe
And i also have had icq crash on me 3 times before and i never have had aim crash.

aol users should be shot

TheOnlyCoolTim January 28th, 2001 01:14 PM

I have AIM but only because all my real-life friends either have AOL or have AIM since all THEIR real-life friends have AOL....

Besides you get a NAME in AIM instead of a NUMBER.....

I agree though many AOL users should be shot....

ICQ without a doubt I think. I too think anything AOL sucks, and yes AOL is a testament to consumer illiteracy and cattle-like mentality. And yes AOL bought ICQ, but ICQ is 95% the same as it was before AOL bought it, they really had squat to do with the program. But a very pertinent and ironic point nonetheless. That's my two cents about that. =)

DaBoogieman January 28th, 2001 02:34 PM

Well for there intended purpose of Instant chat in otherwords paging someone and telling them to meet you on irc or in a game etc...I find AIM and Messenger much more pleasant. I find alot of people orginally made ICQ accounts because there was no other alternative then AIM became avaialable to everyone and they started switching to it but it was promptly shutdown due to some illegal usage by microsoft and others at which point most went back to ICQ and hence the rest of the community in its attempt to be 3L337 sets up ICQ accounts.

The whole leet thing aside though AIM and Messenger both allow you to use NAMES not some st00pid number that you can never remember which makes them far superior in my book.

The only time I ever use the program is to page someone and tell them to meet me somewhere.

ICQ Whats your number? Hold on lemme go cut and paste it LOL

AIM and Messenger whats your 'number' Boogieman OK!

ICQ SU><0Rz its for the folks attempting to jump on the 'leet' bandwagon when most of the 'leet' has already left http://www.veforums.com/biggrin.gif Hehe Sorry if I offend anyone thats just my take on it.
