hot creature combinations

An important point when creating custom spellbooks is the way in which different creatures interact with each other.

For instance, once you have pyromaniacs in yr book, it seems foolish to have anything other that dactyls as your next level choice-the oil and flame in combination are perfect. Substituting dactyls with say, gremlins means losing some serious combo advantage.

So, the question is- are there other fantastic combos of creatures which are worth considering? Another thread mentions ents shielding, so clearly ents with other creatures would be a worthy combo.

As a side note, scarabs also seem to stack their healing. Five scarabs in an army seriously extends the longevity of yr creatures..

Now that you bring up Scarabs, i´ve seen them healing the enemy wizard to in just about any fight i´ve had. Is it supposed to be like that?

Sorry if i went off topic...

i like to assign my manahors to group 9 and tell them to guard me in phanlax formation.(just like everyone else ) but, if you also assign 2 or 3 scarabs to this group and also put them in phanlax, they will stay out of your, and enemy creature's, way and aid your creatures. good strategy, eh?

well actually have a creature combo problem. I love the massive ranged units (boulderdash bombard flurry etc...) How can I get a phat melee/ranged combo going without my melee getting spanked?? Boulderdashes are good but They also have a tendency to smack up my own creatures. I was thinkinng Flummox because they have an arched shot but they are inaccurate and will again smack up my creatures. hell they cant even hit a manalith at their mid-max rage without missing alot. any sudgestions, or should i just forget about ranged alltogether??

I use bombards, but not a whole lot. And never when I have my own melee creatures in a battle. Usually just to harass enemies or guard manaliths.

Don't forget ranged, what i do is bring my melee around from the back (shift-click waypoints) and have them attack from there. then I have the boulderdashes pummel the front. So it ends up making the enemy wizard choose 1 direction to defend or the other.

There are also some other nasty high level combos. Styx and Rinocks are nasty...add some Vorticks and the battle writes itself.

My personal fav has always been Silverback and Warmongers though.

As for Dactyls they are so incredibly useful to Pyro. Oil and Pyromaniacs or Spitfire (you HAVE to try this) is just crazy. not to mention the spell combos.

Does the extra fire damage from oil apply to warmongers? They would dish out insane damage if that is true.
