Check mal deine System-Temperaturen und die Stabilitaet der Spannung, die das Netzteil liefert, sowas ist oefter als man denkt, der ausloeser fuer solche probleme. Zumindest war's das bei mir (aehnliche config)
I am getting the exact same problem. I have tried it with all programs save Systray and explorer running, I have enabled and disabled Virus scanning and like that, Nothing seems to help. I am also getting the same thing, these infuriating random lockups on Hostil Waters Antereaus Rising

hm, well, I could imagine that the problem is th 3DFX card... might be or might not be
@D.F.E.N.S.:
hm... die Stats und die Temp sind einwandfrei... wie gesagt, ich versuch'Äs mit UnSafeDisk mal...
When playing games, the system is put on relatively high load, which means, almost all components in the systems start sucking power like hell. First in row is the AGP card, then sound etc. etc.
On some power supplies it can happen that this causes irregularities in the voltages. Unfortunately, modern AGP cards are EXTREMELY sensistive to such power problems and tend to lock up machines very easily.
I've had that very same problem when i upgraded to GeForce3. Obviously that board pulls even more power, which raises the probability of lockups if the power supply can't handle the demand.
I've found that out using a PC Monitoring tool (Asus PCProbe). The graphs of voltage had little dents all the time (even when doing nothing), but during games those dents got worse. So i tried a more powerful and higher-quality power supply (ok, plus some cooling (8 vents to be exact ) and the system is now rock stable like never before.
AMD/Via users should also check that they've got the necessary system drivers and patches installed (Via 4in1 v4.25, AMD LargePage fix).
